Hi,
I am unable to connect my chromebook to my server / WiFi Unit as it's asking for a password. I have tried everything which appears on the back of my WiFi Unit and have been unsuccessful. The Unit is over a decade old. If it is asking for a password which was physically invented by myself at the time, there is no way I am able to recall it.
My IT skills are limited, so would appreciate a very basic reply.
Many thanks
Rob

Hi @CymruRob
I've ordered the router for you, please allow 24-48hrs for this to arrive.
Let us know how the connection compares with this router.
Thanks
Debbie

Someone from TalkTalk will make a post on here (possibly tomorrow) and offer you the replacement router. All you have to do, is to reply to the TT post accepting it & they will arrange everything.

FAO. Keith French. Has the router already been ordered or is it something that I have to process. If so, where from? You're a star fella. Many thanks.

When TalkTalk offer this to you @CymruRob, if you accept, the new router will be delivered by Royal Mail. On receipt just replace the PO one with the new one, using the new supplied cables & power adapter etc.
On the rear of the router is a Pull-Up panel that contains the WiFi network name & password, plus a router password to allow you to login to the router to make any changes. If you need any help with that, just let me know.

I have updated my profile as Keith French suggested.
Just 1 final question? Do i have to do anything to instigate the change of the PO router and will it be delivered in the post? Apologies. There is just no beginning to my IT skills! Genuinely appreciate all the assistance and kindness today.

I have just checked with TalkTalk for you & I think it would be best to get your router swapped out for the current TalkTalk router. There will be no charge for this.
They aim to respond within 48 hours (Monday - Friday) excluding Bank Holiday & the posts are responded to in time/date order, oldest first.
To save yourself time, please make sure that your community profile includes your first & last names, broadband phone number & if possible an alternative contact number. This can be done by clicking on your Avatar picture and then clicking on "My Settings" followed by:-

Otherwise, TalkTalk will not be able to tie up your forum username to your broadband account. Only you & TalkTalk have visibility of your details.
Hi @Debbie-TalkTalk @Karl-TalkTalk @Michelle-TalkTalk
Please could one of you replace this ageing PO router?

It sounds like your router is using an old security setting, which may make you vulnerable, you would have to login to the router to see if it can be updated. However, the password that you need to connect to your WiFi network should be marked on the router. Presumably, this is a Post Office router, which I have no knowledge of.
If you can tell me the make/model of router that you have, I might be able to look into it for you.

Join the Wi-Fi network. Clicked on my provider. Three fields.
1, SSID is populated with Post_Office_AA70. The PO has been my providers for over a decade, until the recent migrations. which is now Talk Talk
2. Security. It states PSK (WPA or RSN). Cannot change anything in this field.
3. Password. For me to populate.
I work remotely and am okay at the moment, cos have this laptop for everything. It is on its way out, however, and will need to pass across to the new chromebook shortly.

Which password are you referring to, the password to connect to your WiFi network or the admin password to log in to the router?

Many thanks for the prompt reply. My problem is I do not know what to type in the password section. I have tried the WiFi key, the WPS Pin and the 'Default Login' password. If it was simply a password I created a decade ago, I cannot recall it.

Try factory defaulting the router by pushing in the reset switch by the power connector on the rear. Do this whilst the router is turned on, holding the button in for about 10 seconds.
