Problems with 5Ghz Wifi

I've been having problems with a few devices (chrome books used as on the wall displays) constantly losing access to see other devices on my network. I think I eventually tracked this down to the fact the devices with the problem were connected to the 5Ghz signal and not the 2.4Ghz signal.
As a temp measure I've now split the SSID names - so the 2Ghz and 5Ghz signals have different SSID names - and this has forced everything onto the 2.4Ghz signal for now - and the problem I think is solved. But why would this be the case? Is there an issue with the talktalk router 5Ghz signal?

So far so good. I've got the new router up and running - and using a combined 2.4 and 5Ghz SSID, and so far it seems to be OK.

Just checking back in to see how you're getting on and if the replacement router has arrived?

Running the router on combined 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz just doesn't seem to work, I've had to stick with using two SSID's - one for 2Ghz and one for 5Ghz (which basically never works)
In addition devices are constantly kicked off or seem to lose their DNS (e.g. I can't look up local devices by their local name - having to revert to using their IP address).
I'm afraid to say this router isn't nearly as good as the old BT one I had.

If you have split the SSIDs then you should make sure that the device you want 5GHz to connected is on the right one, check the wifi connection settings by device and if necessary "forget" the other one.
