Unable to connect to VPN

I'm unable to connect to a business VPN. I'm getting an error message saying: "A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed". 

The IT department has narrowed the problem to the router, as this has previously happened with other users who are also Talk Talk customers.

I will need to make a change to your router firmware, will it be ok if I do this now?

 

We advise to leave the router switched on without being rebooted whilst we update the firmware.
