Wifi dropping out, router problem

Hello - I was hoping a member of the support team can help me with an issue I am having.

 

My router has been dropping wifi connection quite regularly. It started a few months ago but would only happen once day for about a minute. This has gotten increasingly worse. Since 2 weeks ago the wifi would drop a few times a day (sometimes the wifi will completely go or the devices would say connected to wifi but no internet). It is now happening about 4 times a day consistently. 

 

When this happens, sometimes the router will flash amber but sometimes it remains as a white light. I have already manually reset the router multiple times and even did a factory reset through the online router management site. I now reset the router daily.

 

There is never any issue with the phone line, the phone connection is always stable and no sound issues at all which is why I suspect the router is the issue. The router is very old, must be quite a few years now but the online tests say the router is working fine and has the latest firmware.

 

I asked Live Chat for support which hasn't been any help; after doing a line test they say there's no issue outside the house and the only advice I get is to reset my router. This is not helpful at all because the wifi does start working fine after a reset but this doesn't last long (sometimes not even an hour). I find it unreasonable for me to have to reset/restart my router sometimes 4-5 times a day just to have an internet connection. I also work from home so this is becoming increasingly frustrating and unbearable, to the point I am very seriously thinking of leaving TalkTalk.

 

Please can someone be of assistance instead of just telling me to reset the router?

I'm sorry to hear this.

 

The line tests are clear so I have ordered a replacement router for testing, please allow 24-48hrs for this to arrive.

 

Let us know how the connection compares with the new router.
