Connecting to Talktalk servers

My partners email account was hacked last week.  We have managed to recover the account and she can now use webmail.  However, we use Thunderbird to access our emails on our PC and since the password reset we have been unable to get it to reconnect to the TalkTalk servers using the new password.  I have backed up the mailbox from Thunderbird and then deleted the account.  I have then tried to recreate the account using the settings from the TalkTalk but it keeps complaining either the configuration is incorrect, wrong user name or password.  All these are correct.  Could somebody assist. Her email account is a registered mailbox.

Hi, I used Mailbox Manager, logged in with my TalkTalk admin account, to reset her password.  Uninstalling Thunderbird will cause me issues, as I also use it to access my emails.  I will contact Thunderbird to see if they have any idea why it wont connect anymore.

Hi, @ipearce1 

You say  'she can now use webmail'. Is this the previously hacked email address via her browser on her PC?

And she can't access the same hacked email address via Thunderbird on her PC?

If so, and after changing the the password within Thunderbird, (other settings within Thunderbird not needing change in Thunderbird, as the TalkTalk servers settings have not changed recently) then I suggest you reinstall Thunderbird in her PC.

Hi, We did have her email setup on an android tablet, this is what prompted me to the issue as it kept asking for a password.  I deleted the account off the tablet.  I have since tried to re-add the account back in to gmail app but am getting the same issue where by it wont connect with the new password.

Hi, I haven't reported the hack as was trying to get back in to the account and ensure nothing else compromised.  Also having a new boiler fitted at home so quite busy with that.  The hack is only affecting my partners account.

Hi @ipearce1 your post has been escalated.

Have you tried setting up the account on a tablet or phone using thunderbird?

I don't work here and all my opinions are my own.
