Email received about "refreshing" account settings

Hello,

Yesterday I received an email, assumed to be from TalkTalk, stating that I need to refresh my email account settings before the 10th Oct.  It provides a link to go to the account but it does not work and I have since heard it is a scam.

Can anyone provide some more information? And why, when I used the main TalkTalk account Chat service, the person I chatted with did not know anything about it and asked me if I wanted the details of the settings sent by email.

Well confused.

Report phishing, block sender, delete the email and run a malware check. 

 

Keep antivirus software up to date.
