Good Evening,

I am trying to add my TalkTalk.Net emails to Outlook Application however anything I try will not work. I know my username and password are correct because I can login via webmail.

Setup trying to use IMAP with the following details below.

Incoming Mail

- Server - mail.talktalk.net

- Port - 993

-Encryption Method - SSL/TLS

-Unticked (Require Log-on using secure password authentication)

Outgoing eMail

- Server - smtp.talktalk.net

- Port - 587

-Encryption Method - SSL/TLS

-Unticked (Require Log-on using secure password authentication)

I then receive an error "Something went wrong". "We couldn't log on to the incoming (IMAP) server. Please check your email address and password and try again.

I have tried to setup using Outlook and the built in Mail app but none are working.

Hi @Ady-TalkTalk

Thanks for the response! It would be great if you can let me know when the List has been run.

No it hasn't which is odd. My colleague is normally very good at this. I've sent a different chaser.

Hi @Ady-TalkTalk ,

Do you know if the List has been run yet?

I'm afraid it hasn't been done yet. I've sent a message to my colleague with the list and asked him to run them as soon as possible. It should happen this afternoon.

Hi @Ady-TalkTalk / @Chris-TalkTalk

It has been longer than 48 Hours and I still cannot add the mailbox to outlook or windows 10 mail etc.

Can you check to see if it's been restored please. I have double checked the email in private notes and its correct.

Hi PR_2023, I've added your mailbox to those to be restored to normal function. Please allow 48 hours for the change to complete.

Hi @Chris-TalkTalk ,

Yes webmail works fine however I am unable to add the email account to any third party software such as Outlook, IOS Mail, Windows 10/11 Mail, thunderbird etc.

tried everything - I did receive an email on 17th February to say it would be blocked and had to contact support to get it re-enabled again.

Hi PR_2023,

Could I just ask, does webmail work OK?

I am not talking about online chat at all, you will most likely be contacted by the main TalkTalk email expert @Ady-TalkTalk.

Live chat wasn't very helpful lol I was hoping one of the talk talk experts on here could help. Hopefully they see this chat. Thank-you for your help though.

It doesn't matter what email program I use the errors all seem to point to incorrect details on IMAP.talktalk.net - Even tried using thunderbird. Do you think my account has been blocked and needs updating.

Crucially did you try enabling the log with your email address as the username & its password?

Is it a talktalk.net address, one of the other talktalk managed ones or your own domain?

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your reply! I tried it with STARTTLS and the outcome was still the same. This issue is happening on several devices and applications. Outlook, Windows Mail, Outlook Mobile, IOS Mail etc

I don't use Outlook but there would seem to be a couple of errors with your setup.

  1. You must use your email address as the username & your password AND login with these credentials.
  2. Does Outlook allow the SMTP server to use STARTTLS for the encryption, as that is what it should be?
