hello Talktalk community.
I am an elderly lady in my very senior years and have a problem with my homecall.co.uk email address. I live on my own so my email service is a real lifeline to me.
Since about 2 or 3 days ago I am not able to send or recieve email using Windows Live Mail (I have always used this and so it is very familiar to me).
Reading a few of the other posts it seems my email account needs resetting. Would someone be a dear and do that for me?
A friend of mine told me to join this forum and update my private notes with my Talktalk account number etc. which I have done.
Thanks
Irene.

OK, if all the other settings are as I showed in the table then emClient will work and importantly will connect securely.
I don't know why the technician couldn't get mail.talktalk.net accepted but imap.homecall.co.uk is an alternative name on the server security certificate for mail.talktalk.net so it will work.
At some future renewal of the server security certificate it might be decided to drop some of the alternative names. In which case mail.talktalk.net will be required and emClient may then prompt to accept a new certificate in which case accept and all will be good.

Set to 993 as per your instructions below.

Is the incoming port set to 993 or something else?

Hello @Ady-TalkTalk
My local technician has visited and set me up with emClient which seems to be working. Although he did say that he had to use imap.homecall.co.uk in order for the incoming mail to work.... I don't know what this means but he asked me to pass it on to you.
Regards
Irene

Hi Irene, the email address in your profile still has full function. Is there another mailbox that you need help with?

Hi IreneThomson
The secure mail settings for emClient are given below so I've requested that full access is restored for the email address mailbox in your Community profile Private notes.
TalkTalk Support will respond here and access returned within a couple of days after that. Until then use TalkTalk Mail webmail via an up to date Internet browser to keep in touch with email contacts.
Make sure that emClient is up to date after the IT tech installs it. The settings will not be exactly the same as advised by TalkTalk.
You'll need to set up emClient as an IMAP account with the following settings:
Account Type | IMAP |
Username | Full email address |
Password | Email password |
Incoming mail server Host | mail.talktalk.net |
Incoming Port (IMAP) | 993 |
Security Policy | Use SSL/TLS on special port (Legacy) |
Outgoing mail server Host | smtp.talktalk.net |
Outgoing Port | 587 |
Security Policy | Force usage of SSL/TLS |
Server Requires Authentication | Yes |
Authentication Method | Normal Password |

Hello @Gondola
Thank you for your help. I have spoken to a local IT technician and he is coming to install a program called EMclient tomorrow (Monday).
Please could you request that the account is reset so that my homecall email will work with EMclient?
Thanks
Irene

Hi Irene
Regrettably Windows Live Mail (WLM) does not support secure mail so will no longer work. It's way out of date and does not receive any security upgrades.
You can use TalkTalk Mail webmail via a secure up to date browser. The upgrade path from WLM is to use Windows Mail on Windows 10 or 11 or if your device is up to date buy a paid upgrade to Outlook 365 or download the free Thunderbird or BlueMail desktop email software. I can help with new software.
If you saw the message from TalkTalk advising "Our records show that you are still accessing your email using unencrypted email settings, because of this you will no longer be able to receive or send emails via this email app or software" then the email address receiving that notification has been limited to webmail only access as a last resort action by TalkTalk to stop the use of insecure email.
TalkTalk Mail webmail is secure by design using an up to date Internet browser.
Select here: Sign in to TalkTalk Mail
Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address and password, select Sign in.
You will be able to get email access restored to email apps or software including mail collection services so long as you're ready to use up to date and secure email settings for all the ways you view emails. We can advise on device and software compatibility and provide customer setup guides. Just let us know each mail collection service, each device, its operating system and email software including version that are in current use.
For a definitive check of settings take screenshots of the incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of the email address and upload here using the Camera icon (desktop browser) or Picture icon (mobile browser) above this reply area.
When you confirm the secure settings are ready I can request TalkTalk Support to restore full access. TalkTalk Support will respond here and access will be restored usually within a couple of working days.
