New Laptop Set Up - Emails Disappearing

I have just got a new laptop.  I added my TalkTalk e-mail account to Microsoft Outlook according to the instructions & can send e-mails ok.  i have two questions;

1) None of my old e-mails downloaded into the new Inbox - how can i retrieve them?

2) New e-mails arrive, however, they disappear within a few hours without a trace.  Why is this happening?  I still have access to my PC & the e-mails are there but totally disappear from my Laptop which i purchased to replace my PC but at present it is not possible for me to do so.

i am not very technically minded so if anyone can help but in simple language, that would be great please.

Thanks in advance

It sounds like you may have been using Pop3, it is always best to use IMAP as the messages are held on the server.

Have a look at this web page, which deals with exporting your emails to a PST folder on your old PC and then importing that PST file into your IMAP account. Whether this covers your versions of Outlook, I have no idea.:-

Thanks for replying.  I will check what the set up is on my old PC but didn’t want to mess around with that in case I lose the emails there too as that is the only place they all are available to me.

when I logged in webmail my old emails don’t show there either.

unfortunately I don’t have a smartphone to try (I’m old!) but will see if I can put in my daughters iPad when she comes.
do you think it could be an issue that the old pc & new laptop are using different (pop & imap?)

With IMAP, your emails are all held on the email server & viewable by multiple devices. In addition to what @Billx has said, can you log into your emails via your phone using an IMAP configuration & see what that shows?

Hi, @LuHoo

Maybe, your setup in the old PC is as a POP email account, which I assume would download and delete the emails periodically.

Also, have you used TalkTalk webmail at https://apps.talktalk.co.uk/appsuite/  with your email address and password, to see what that shows? You can login separately at each of your machines.

Are you using a talktalk.net email address? Did you add it in Outlook as an IMAP account?
