After carrying out the settings update for SMPT as reqested by talktalk and diligently checking many times, I am no longer able to send emails using Thunderbird. Emails are recived OK and talktalk web mail works fine. Outgoing mail just hangs with a blue line forever pretending it is sending.

Thanks Ady, In my frustration, I re-entered my password with a typo. Now corrected and talktalk emails are now OK. I've just got to persuade my hotmail Thunderbird additional account to resume working.
Cheers

If the login still fails then the User Name and or stored password are still incorrect. The User Name and password must match for the account email address. for both the Incoming and outgoing server settings.
You can check the Saved Logins via the Tools > Settings > Privacy & Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords > Saved Logins etc
As for the 'missing' messages in webmail. You're using a POP3 email account in Thunderbird. That is downloading and deleting mail from the online Inbox that you see in webmail. This download and deletion is happening because the 'Leave messages on server' has not been ticked. If you wish to leave messages in the online Inbox so that webmail and other IMAP account devices see those messages then tick the Server Settings box 'Leave messages on server'.

I have discovered that my username for the smpt server contained an error, the letter "d" was missing, I have now edited it to correct the errror, but I still cannot send emails. The message received is "Login to account 'smpt' failed. Login to server smpt.talktalk.net with username -------@talktalk.net failed". Additionally I have only received three messages in my web mail talktalk account even though just today I have received nine to Thunderbird.

If you're using the Home Account that you showed the settings for and that's using the named smtp server and Usernames and passwords are identical for the Home Account in both the incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP servers then it should work.
What send error message are you seeing? Just send a message back to yourself i.e. Home Account sending to Home Account.

I am still not able to send or reply to talktalk emails using Thunderbird. This is now getting quite silly and exasperating.

Hi Trevorc, I've checked the mailbox in your community profile. It has full access. If there's another mailbox that has a problem please add it to private notes in your profile.

Hi Trevorc
You may wish to redact the Microsoft email address showing in the screenshots. i.e. remove the images, edit and reload.
The secure mail settings are good so I've requested that full access is restored for the mailbox email address in your Community profile, Personal information, Private notes.
TalkTalk Support will respond here and access returned within a couple of days after that. Until then use TalkTalk Mail webmail via an up to date Internet browser to keep in touch with email contacts.

If you saw the message from TalkTalk advising "Our records show that you are still accessing your email using unencrypted email settings, because of this you will no longer be able to receive or send emails via this email app or software" then the email address receiving that notification has been limited to webmail only access as a last resort action by TalkTalk to stop the use of insecure email. TalkTalk Service Status for 23rd had a note saying that customers would not be able to send but could receive.
TalkTalk Mail webmail is secure by design using an up to date Internet browser.

Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address and password, select Sign in.
You will be able to get email access restored to email apps or software including mail collection services, passwords will then re-authenticate, so long as you're ready to use up to date and secure email settings for all the ways you view emails. We can advise on device and software compatibility and provide customer setup guides. Just let us know each mail collection service, each device, its operating system and email software including version that are in current use.
For a definitive check of Thunderbird settings take screenshots of the incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of the email address and upload here using the Camera icon (desktop browser) or Picture icon (mobile browser) above this reply area.
When you confirm the secure settings are ready I can request TalkTalk Support to restore full access. TalkTalk Support will respond here and access will be restored usually within a couple of working days.
