I have my own domain name and want to carry on using talktalk email. Can I use a forwarding service to send to talktalk email and reply as if from the domain name or is this just not possible?

I expect you've tried to use the TalkTalk SMTP server to send personal domain email and found that it doesn't work. TalkTalk do not authenticate personal domain email addresses.
The TalkTalk SMTP server will reply to email but it'll be from your TalkTalk email address. You can set a 'friendly name' to appear to your recipients like From: AlDee (Al@AlDeePersonalDomain) <firstname.lastname@example.org>
If you'd like to know how to do that in TalkTalk Mail (Webmail) just let me know.
