Hi folks,

I received an email (from a cricket club committee I'm a volunteer with) addressed to 20 people plus 2 CC:

I answered and hit reply all and got this message!

Now I'm blocked!

This is only the second email I have sent today.

Can anyone tell me:

A) the Talk Talk limit on the number of recipients

B) If this has changed recently?

Thank you

The checks and changes you've made are good. A perfect start.

Fingers crossed is also a solution although even better is to check that there are no rogue addresses in the group send or addresses that bounce back your mail as undeliverable. If the system detects that there are addresses that don't appear to exist then the system spam protection may kick in again because it thinks a spammer is just trying addresses at random just to see if they are active.

Good start though on troubleshooting the issue.

Hi Gondola,

I have followed your instructions.

I have checked my devices (just laptop and mobile phone)

Resent my password.

I am not using a VPN

There were two rules that were both 'off' and I've deleted them.

My email is working as expected but I fear that if I try and send a group email out again I'll get caught by the spam / limit again even though my email use is very modest.

I'll keep my fingers crossed (even though that might not be a technical solution! )

Thank you for your help.

Hi Mike

TT502 is a temporary stop on sending that will be relaxed after 24 hours.  This error message is an escalation of the previous message because it indicates that your mailbox has exceeded the daily limit on sending.  As this means sending emails to potentially many hundreds of recipients it's a temporary stop on sending because the TalkTalk Mail system thinks your mailbox could be sending spam.

There are things you can do.

First is to run a check of your email devices to ensure none have any password capturing virus, trojan or other malware.  Then upgrade the mailbox password. I recommend 12-15 characters, multicase letters and at least one number and one symbol.

Next is to make sure you're not connecting to your mailbox with more than one device. And not connecting via a VPN. This is to ensure the system hasn't detected multiple devices connecting from access points in different geographic locations or from overseas locations which is where a VPN service might have its hosting servers. If you do use a VPN then switch to using a UK host server.

In 24 hours connect only via your home broadband and via TalkTalk Mail webmail.

In the meantime, using the new password, sign in to TalkTalk Mail webmail.

Select here: Sign in to TalkTalk Mail

Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address, select Continue and enter the password, select Sign in.

  • Select the Main settings menu cog icon      top right on the blue header (desktop browser)
  • Select All settings
  • Select Security and sign out any devices other than the one you're using

Now I need you to check there are no Rules operating on your incoming mail messages.

  • Select the Main settings menu cog icon      top right on the blue header (desktop browser)
  • Select All settings
  • Select Mail and scroll down to Rules
Select the chevron icon > to see all defined Rules
If there's no rule defined, that's perfect
  • To delete a Filter rule including any Auto forward
select the X icon to the right of the rule
The icon background will turn red  X
  • To confirm you really want to delete this Filter rule
    Select the blue Delete button

Let us know if you noted any unrecognised device signed in or if there were Rules operating.

Having upgraded the password, signed out all devices bar one and made sure your incoming emails weren't being copied elsewhere you've now completed the security check of your mailbox. If there was any unauthorised sending then you've locked that out.

Thank you Gondola. It is now 24 hours later. I tried sending one email to one receipient and I'm still unable to send emails.

Tried the test and getting TT502.

Server error: '453 4.1.1 SO6hrYYyGMRSr Too Many Recipients (TT502)'

This is very irritating!

I guess I've no where to turn for help. I'm paying for an email account I cannot currently use!

TT501 is a temporary stop on sending that will be relaxed after an hour.

TalkTalk don't publish any fixed limits because the detection of suspicious activity can flex the point at which the spam protection will be triggered.
