The TT SMTP Outgoing mail server looks like it is down. I am trying to send emails & the SMTP server times out:-

Hi @kanya-TT
I have been doing more work on this and I am not convinced this is actually a TalkTalk issue. It looks like something has caused the SMTP mail server (outgoing emails) password to be erased in the email client. Putting it back seems to have resolved the issue. Thunderbird is easy, New Outlook for Windows can be more involved.
Thunderbird
When requested, enter the correct password in the screen below & normally tick the "Use Password Manager to remember this password" option. Then click the OK button:-
SMTP password
New Outlook for Windows
This can be more complex, as it may result in a "Username is not recognised" error.
Resolution
Assuming that the username is correct, click the X at the top right of this window:-
Incorrect username
First, try clicking the Troubleshooting button below:-
Troiubleshoot or Advanced setup
If that does not fix the issue, click Advanced Setup above.
Note: this will remove all email accounts from Outlook. So long as the emails etc are held on an IMAP server, they will not be lost. I cannot be held responsible if you lose any data.
Double click IMAP below:-
Select IMAP
It will be seen that the password has been cleared below; replace it with the correct password. In addition, when scrolling down this page, check all other configurations, particularly the SMTP password:-
Enter password
Once done, click Continue. Then add back in all other email accounts & check the configuration.
If this still does not work, I will try to help you individually. In that case, please PM me (to preserve your privacy) a screenshot of your complete IMAP/SMTP configuration, so that I can check it for you.
The information below is provided by TalkTalk. For confirmation, please contact @Lorrainef, the manager of the TalkTalk support staff on this forum.

Hi @kanya-TT
Just tried it again & it is still not working. Additionally, there are a significant number of people complaining about the same issue now. I have listed a few of them below. Could you please raise an incident?

Hi @kanya-TT
Like @ferguson I have just retested it & it does seem to be OK. I wonder what caused it?

Hi @kanya-TT
I have just tested webmail & that is fine, it is only SMTP that is affected.

Okay, let me ask the guys here and see if they 've had a similar issue. Kanya

Not sure @kanya-TT, I know of at least one other TT customer in a totally different part of the UK that is affected. It could be the start of a bigger outage.

Hey there, @KeithFrench. We will have to have more examples of customers experiencing this so that we can let Lorraine submit an incident.
