Perfect. That'll ensure Thunderbird keeps on working so long as Mozilla carry on supporting the product. Thunderbird has an embedded set of TLS 1.2 ciphers so that means you'll be able to use secure mail.

Thanks Gondola.    I'll take your advice and have rechecked  'Advanced ' tab > Requires secure connection (SSL).    I'll give up on WLM and move to T'bird.

Did you see my penultimate reply? I just wish to make sure you understand the ramifications of using an insecure mail connection with TalkTalk Mail.

Opting for an insecure mail connection is not a wise move. TalkTalk do not support insecure mail connections because user passwords can be discovered if mail is intercepted.  The result will be that TalkTalk will detect the use of an insecure connection and if you continue to use WLM your mailbox will be limited to webmail only access. So, when that happens your connection using Thunderbird will then also cease working.

The only recommended option is to cease using WLM.

Thanks Gondola.    I have Thunderbird on my Windows 11 laptop but I have always had Windows Live Mail on the older Windows 7 desktop, and I would like to keep it running on that machine as I am more familiar with it than T'bird.    My daughter (who is good with computers  but is working away in Germany) thinks  WLM is an old client and is probably not equiped to handle SSL security so I have unchecked the requirement for SSL secure connection.     We'll see how that goes.    Thanks again for your response.

I see you signed out of Community shortly after posting about the use of Windows Live Mail (WLM). I therefore assume you have now replaced WLM with some supported software solution or are just using TalkTalk Mail's webmail option.

Windows Live Mail is an out of date deprecated product that is not supported by TalkTalk Mail.

Use a supported Operating System like Windows 10 as a minimum and either the packaged Windows Mail product or a third party product like Thunderbird, BlueMail or TypeApp (other supported email apps are available)

I gave you this solution on 23 June 2023.  Is there a reason for asking the exact same question? Have you not tried Thunderbird which is still, for the time being, supported on Windows 7.
