Trying to set up dsl.pipex.com email address with the new settings but it is not authenticating.  Tried every combo of ports etc.  Using pop3 and it didn't work.  Installed Outlook 365 and used IMAP and still getting authentication errors.  Could someone from TT please check this email address.  Looks like a change is needed at your end.  I see from previous threads there are other folk having the same issue.  Huge thanks

Thank you for your time and patience.

I saw the Outlook for desktop screenshots earlier. I thought you were uploading new screenshots applicable to the mobile devices. But in practice I'm not worried if the email software is Outlook for mobile in place of native email apps as Outlook for mobile is always set for secure mail operation.

We do appreciate your time in letting us know. I'm as confident as I can be that you're all set up securely. Thank you.

I don't see the screenshots but I can confirm that Outlook for mobile is always secure by default.

Hi Gondola - the settings on andriod (13) phone and ipad (IOS 16.3.1) are EXACTLY the same as the setup on the pc.  So, same mail servers, same port numbers, same SSL/TLS and StartTLS.  I installed the latest version of MS Outlook on android phone and ipad too using the QR code given once the pc settings were accepted.  So, using TalkTalk settings, I have to assume that they are secure.  Can you confirm that the settings in the screen shots below are secure?  M

But are you confident that the settings are secure? IMAP access will have been restored so even insecure settings will work. But if they're not secure then you'll find access is switched off again in due course.

Strangely working now.  Thank you.

The description / labelling of incoming and outgoing server settings is different on iPhone and iPad and on some Android phones.

Guides in the TalkTalk Mail Support Hub will show the setup and checking of Apple iOS devices and Android devices.

For a definitive check of settings take screenshots of the incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of the email address and upload here using the Picture icon (mobile browser) above this Reply area.  I'll let you know what needs changing if anything.

Hi Ady - I have managed to set up outlook using the agreed settings on my pc but, they same settings are not working on my phone or my ipad.  Are the setting different for these devices or, do you need to authorise additional devices from your end.  Huge thanks.  M

Ah, OK.  That makes sense.  So, assuming you have a pretty big backlog then dealing with these legacy pipex addresses.  I will try setting it up again during the week.  Thank you for the explanation.  M

I can understand your analysis.

But what happens in practice is that Ady verifies the mailbox address is valid and that IMAP access has been switched off by TalkTalk to put a stop to the use of insecure connections. Ady then adds the mailbox email address to a database of mailboxes to have full access restored after checking that the user is ready and able to use secure connection settings. Another team member is working through that database, mailbox by mailbox, and setting the mailbox configuration to allow IMAP access. That's why it's taking two or more days to get IMAP access restored.

Ady replied on Wednesday to say that it was sorted and give it two days to activate.  So, he says he's done it.

Hi Migrit

Ady's not normally online at weekends to provide us with support. The screenshots indicate that IMAP access has not been switched back on. There have been delays that Ady was working hard to resolve.

Thank you.  Will check in a couple of days.

The secure mail settings are good so I've requested that full access is restored for the email address mailbox in your Community profile, Personal information, Private notes.

TalkTalk Support will respond here and access returned within a couple of days after that. Until then use TalkTalk Mail webmail via an up to date Internet browser to keep in touch with email contacts.

PS I've removed the image as it was revealing your email address.

Hi.  Running Windows 10 and Office 365.  Here are the settings I'm putting in but, the account will not set up if the settings fail.  Either have to quit or keep trying until they work.  Obviously, won't work because not authenticating.  Anyway, please find attached the screenshots.  I hope this is what you are looking for.

If you saw the message from TalkTalk advising "Our records show that you are still accessing your email using unencrypted email settings, because of this you will no longer be able to receive or send emails via this email app or software" then the email address receiving that notification has been limited to webmail only access as a last resort action by TalkTalk to stop the use of insecure email.

TalkTalk Mail webmail is secure by design using an up to date Internet browser.

Select here: Sign in to TalkTalk Mail

Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address and password, select Sign in.

You will be able to get email access restored to email apps or software including mail collection services, passwords will then re-authenticate, so long as you're ready to use up to date and secure email settings for all the ways you view emails. We can advise on device and software compatibility and provide customer setup guides. Just let us know each mail collection service, each device, its operating system and email software including version that are in current use.

For a definitive check of settings take screenshots of the incoming and outgoing server settings, image edit to obscure the first part of the email address and upload here using the Camera icon (desktop browser) or Picture icon (mobile browser) above this reply area.

When you confirm the secure settings are ready I can request TalkTalk Support to restore full access. TalkTalk Support will respond here and access will be restored usually within a couple of working days.

Prepare for TalkTalk Support - include in the Community Profile (not in these public posts):

Email account holder name

Scroll down to Private notes to add the email address(es)
and TalkTalk or MailPlus customer account number

Check and Save changes

Select here: Update your profile
