My address book/contact list is now empty so I can't notify anyone that is isn't me.

This is classic hacker tactics.

Check there is no mail forwarding on your account, but if there is delete it. Make a note of to email address before doing so.

Then change your password to one you have never used before.

Of you have another email address, then you can export your address book from there and import into this one.

Of you have Facebook or another social media account, post on there you have been hacked and warn people not to click on any email they may have received.

Unfortunately there is no way to recover your email addresses but if the hackers have not deleted your emails you can save anyone in your inbox or deleted box.

Also change ANY account password on other sites where your original password was used.

Hope this helps
