5Ghz stopped work and guest log in appeared!

Morning Guys,

I noticed that my 5Ghz was no longer available on my devices. I have tried all the usual things like switching off WiFi and back on again etc. Then I logged into the router to disconnect the 5Ghz and reboot and to my surprise I now have a Guest Log In on my router which I didn’t create!

I have disabled and enabled my 5Ghz a couple of times. The router shows as enabled and ‘Up’ but my devices are not finding this band.

Any ideas as to why I have a Guest log in please?

Any ideas how to get my band width back please?

Thanks,

Jackie

Morning Keith,

Thanks for your reply.

As I typed a reply to Debbie, I realised what has happened. A short power cut has rebooted the router, giving me a temporary 5Ghz band.

Will have to get round to a factory reset.

Thanks, as always, for your help 😀,

Regards,

Jackie

Morning Debbie,

On the ball this morning, as always!

Thanks for checking. Strange that it has returned without any intervention, though we did have a brief power cut recently, so maybe the reboot has restored the 5Ghz only temporarily like last time.

Regards,

Jackie

Hi @jackieh2009

The latest firmware is V174, which you have probably had for a while now.

Hi Jackie

I've just checked and I can't see any recent firmware updates completed for the router.

Thanks

@KeithFrench @Good Morning Keith,

I never got around to doing a factory reset on my router, but yesterday or Sunday I noticed that my 5Ghz bandwidth WiFi came back!

Has there been a firmware update to the router?

Thanks,

Jackie

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your email.

Connection has been fine over the weekend, but Keith has explained that I need to do a factory reset if and when it happens again.

I am happy to close this thread as solved!

Regards,

Jackie

Hi @jackieh2009

The guest log in was introduced with firmware V1.58, when support for the WiFi Mesh with the 266 WiFi Booster was added.

You must do a factory reset, because there is a bug in V1.74 and back to V1.58. This manifests itself that despite re-enabling either WiFi band, the actual wifi signal does not always start broadcasting again. This is despite the router's UI looking fine.

Yes, you would lose any settings that you have made, but the firmware will remain unchanged.

It sounds like you have got away with your reboot, but the problems are bound to return until you do the factory reset.

Hi Debbie and Michelle,

I didn’t fancy a factory reset on my router, so unplugged it for over an hour.

The good news is that the rebooted route is now allowing my devices to access my 5Ghz bandwidth.

FYI, I now have a Guest login option on both bandwidths. I presume a firmware update created these?

Many Thanks for all your help as always,

Jackie

Hi Debbie,

I presume I will loose all my settings, names and passwords if I factory reset?

Would I need to use the original login details on the router and start all over again?

Won’t I also loose all the firmware updates too?

Thanks,

Jackie

Hi jackieh2009

Thanks for your reply.

Did you also try factory resetting the router? (using the pin hole reset for ten seconds)

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for speedy reply 🙂.

Good job I kept the box as no branding on router.

It is a Sagemcom FAST 5364-3.

Thanks and regards,

Jackie
