Disable wifi optimisation

Could a Network team member please switch off my wifi optimisation.  My TalkTalk FAST5364 router does not give me the ability to stop my router changing wifi channels at 2.4 GHz which is causing me problems with my neighbours wifi (they conflict).  The router always goes for channels 1, 6 and 11 which is what my neighbours also go for.

I’ve manually set my 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel to Channel 13 due to severe interference on Channels 1, 6, and 11 from neighbouring networks. However, the router keeps reverting to “Auto” because of Wi-Fi Optimisation (and channels 1, 6, and 11), which severely degrades my connection quality.  Please disable Wi-Fi Optimisation on my FAST 5364 router so that my manual channel selection remains fixed. This is essential for maintaining a stable network in my environment. The support team are unable to do this (I spent 90 mins on a chat to discover this fact)

Thank you.

Hi @MarkR4

I have done many investigations on behalf of TalkTalk where Wi-Fi Optimisation was thought to be the cause of the channel changing. Whilst it is the cause of that, I have normally found that the optimisation has been required due to Wi-Fi interference in the property.

Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment; this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz band can sometimes have a better range; however, this all depends on your local area.

In other words, I offer a free, impartial analysis of your Wi-Fi network and will try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.

I only send this out to people who request it.

The support team here too are unable to turn optimisation off.

This has been a feature that can no longer be changed and has been for a couple of years now.
