Morning Guys,
I can only describe my internet problem as ‘flaky’.
Over the past few days I have had to reboot my router several times.
I have had problems getting onto government websites on my desktop and since yesterday I can’t download any programmes from my Sky box.
TT test shows everything as OK except maybe WiFi issues, but that is not the case because my WiFi on all my other devices is fine.
Can you offer any help please?
Thanks,
Jackie

Morning Keith,
Thank you so much for all your help yesterday.
TT have now fixed the problem and I have successfully downloaded two programmes this morning without changing my DNS settings!
Hours wasted I’ll never get back, but a result 🙂
Regards,
Jackie

Thanks Keith.
The Sky forum suggests changing the DNS on the Sky box network settings page but I can’t seem to find it.
On my router website I think I have found the correct page. It is currently set as automatic and set to 79.79.79.79 and 79.79.79.80.
Am I in the right place?

Jackie

It's been around for three or four days @jackieh2009 but seems to be gradually resolving itself. Sometimes these DNS servers are just slow to update. Changing to Google DNS would be fine; you could leave it on that, or change back in a few days.

Thanks Keith.
One of the posts suggests changing the DNS in the Sky box, but I’m concerned that TT will, hopefully, fix their problem and then my Sky box download won’t again!
How long has there been a TT DNS server problem? Do you imagine it being mixed sooner rather than later?
I am not sure whether I should change my Sky box settings or wait for a fix?

Jackie

Hi @jackieh2009
I have just seen a few threads that can't download stuff to a SkyQ box:-

Hi @jackieh2009
The DNS issue will only affect outgoing connections to the internet. Mind you, from a techie point of view, I don't know how the Skybox works. Any requests to stream or record something would be another outgoing session. That said, it might set up the media stream in an outbound session, telling the Sky servers to download the media using a port that it has specified.

Thanks Keith, that may tie in with the isolated website problem.
But does it explain the Sky only WiFi problem?

The problem isn’t just WiFi.
Tuesday and Wednesday I could not access a government website on my wired desktop computer. I got a screen message saying Hmmmm…..can’t reach this page. Looks like www.trafford.gov.uk closed the connection. No one else I asked has had any problems getting on our local council website.
The only WiFi problem I have discovered so far is the WiFi download on my Sky box. When I try to download a programme, the last time it worked was Monday. Now when I try to download I get a Failed message saying Failed Recording: No Broadband, but I’m using my WiFi iPad to message you!
I am confused as to what is causing all the drop outs or slow downs.
Regards,
Jackie

There are currently some issues with the TalkTalk DNS servers in some areas of the country. I don't know if your problems are caused by this.

Does the problem occur everywhere you try and use the WiFi, or just in certain parts of the house - for example upstairs, or outside the house?

No, I don’t

Do you have any active monitoring for life threatening health reasons which is solely dependant upon your TalkTalk Broadband or Telephone line?
For example a care alarm, lifeline, health pendant or fall detector.

Yes, I am

Okay, I need to run a line test. Are you currently at home where the TalkTalk services are installed?

Hi Phili,
Yes, experiencing drop-out and also very slow response even though speed test Ping looks OK!
