What happens if I turn off my EERO router?

Morning all

We had Full Fibre installed back in May: pretty pleased so far.

After the Openreach engineer had finished the installation, he told me that we shouldn't turn off the EERO router because it would flag up a fault at the exchange. I need to make some changes to our electrical installation ( fitting an exterior socket) and in order to do so, I'll have to cut the power to the EERO for about an hour, maybe longer. What consequences, if any, am I likely to have to deal with if the router is off for that length of time? And what would happen if, for example we had a power cut and the EERO was without power for 7 or 8 hours?

Thanks again.

It definitely wouldn't be a regular thing, but only if I'm changing or adding sockets or if we're away from the property for any length of time.

All the best.

Hello,

No problem. We do usually recommend keeping the router on and connected and not rebooting/switching off the router all the time as this may appear as an unstable connection on our side, however if it's only for a few hours or while work is being completed then this will be fine.

Michelle 🙂

Hi Michelle

Thanks for replying so promptly. You could well be right, and that he was only referring to the initial set-up period.

I must admit that I'm not keen on leaving appliances powered unnecessarily when we're away from home for any length of time, so I was dismayed to learn ( so I thought) that the router and associated equipment would need to be left on permanently.

As you've never heard of this I think I can safely assume that turning the router off won't cause any problems and I can proceed with the work on my exterior socket.

Thanks again.

Morning,

Thanks for your post. I've never heard that before. I wonder if the engineer meant while the FTTP connection was originally being set up you shouldn't switch it off. It's fine to switch off the eero if you need to move equipment around or if the electricity is off for a while. If you do experience any issues then let us know.

Thanks

Michelle
