Hi, I have an issue with Ebay being blocked for me most of the time, occasionally it works for a few days and then its blocked again, I can only access it via a vpn, this is the error
"Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebay.co.uk/myb/WatchList?" on this server.

its the same regardless of browser or deletion of cookies etc. Does anyone have a solution?
P.S in HomeSafe settings i have scam and virus enabled but no other protection (other than win11 firewall/antiV)
Thank you and Rgds

Hi @ferguson
Not with a rejection message, that must be coming from somewhere. A dodgy DNS resolution will most likely mean that you do not reach your destination, as the resolved IP address would be wrong.
Saturday
You do not think it is even worth trying alternative DNS settings in the eero itself?
Saturday
Hi, ebay is now accessible..., i did not change anything from my last access denied attempt. But this is not unusual and happens fairly often, i do not expect the access to last, it can be anything from less than an hour to a couple of days. I don't change anything or use windows any differently during these times (my ip has not yet been changed either).

HI @loxocemus
I don't think that the DNS server will have much difference in your case. With an access denied message, you are most likely reaching a destination to get that sort of message returned. If there were a DNS server issue, then you would most likely not reach your destination. Please see my previous post & PM me the ping result and perhaps even better, include the output from a trace route to ebay.co.uk as well.
Saturday
Well then you should, via the eero app, as I suggested earlier. Try Google DNS at 8.8.8.8 which is very reliable. Let us know if that solves your problem.

hi, tech support had me change the dns of the wifi adapter in windows control panel, i have not altered the eero settings in any way.

@loxocemus Did you change the DNS settings in the eero itself, as per the link I posted earlier?
Saturday
OK @loxocemus
Using an eero I can reach ebay no problem from my Windows 11/Chrome desktop. In your eero app go to:-
Home > Security & Privacy > Advanced Security > Network Controls
Make sure that Advanced Security is disabled & that no blocking is enabled on the Network Controls page.
Now, ping ebay.co.uk & PM me (to preserve your privacy) the results.
If you are having the problem with a Windows PC, then Wireshark remains an option.
Saturday
Hi Keith, no i haven't touched eero settings, tech support never mentioned those, i have only changed wifi dns as per their advice.

@loxocemus I think you said that you have disabled advanced security on the eero, so that won't be the issue. The only way to prove this is to get me a trace from Wireshark. I can supply full details on how to do this, if you want.
Saturday
thanks, i am waiting for this new ip address, i just wish tech support could have been more clear when this was happening. instead of leaving mid conversation without much explanation. if a talktalk support staff member can let me know id appreciate it.
ps homesafe on or off is not the cause of my particular issue, ebay remains blocked regardless of those settings.

I think that the issue of using Homesafe (if at all) with Eero was picked up on by @KeithFrench a few years back when he first used the Eero, @loxocemus.
I'm pretty sure he discovered it had to be just the Eero's own security settings one should be using.
If he has time, he might comment on here. Other community stars are also around, but from now on this Community is peer to peer only, so if we can't solve it among ourselves, you do need to use direct support from Talktalk via phone or Chat going forward.

its on the account webpage, security settings i think its under, u can enable disable options like kidsafe, scam stuff etc, i think there's 4 options under this homesafe u can alter, id check but the site is currently down for maintenance. its not on the eero app but via your account profile, it still alters ur service.
an early suggestion was to disable these options, i did, ebay is still blocked by
You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebay.co.uk/mye/myebay/purchase?" on this server.

@loxocemus, you have mentioned Homesafe a few times.
You shouldn't have it at all if you are using the Eero.
AI answer:
Talktalk's description of Eero - Secure:
https://help-centre.talktalk.co.uk/Broadband/Security/About_eero_Secure
Check on 03451 720074 or Chat with the Full Fibre team during the day, but I don't think you should have any Homesafe software switched on.

hi, i never had to use a vpn before this ebay thing, its a random access denied error, occasionally i can access ebay normally, but it doesn't last long, i can replicate the error on 2 laptops and my mobile, its definitely a "source" issue....

Ah, you shouldn't have to use a VPN to access eBay, that is a wee bit puzzling. Or do you mean you use one habitually?
Friday
hi, thanks for the help first of all, regarding eero security all off, homesafe etc, no av in the middle, dns changes was one of the things tech support had me do, no difference, yes an eero 6 extender.
the speed thing is a job for a huge ethernet cable i suppose, the ebay block is a job for a browser vpn but that affects others pages so i have to turn it off and on. 1st world problems 🐵

"Range extender," another eero you mean?
Let's see if we can sort the eBay issue first. Have you tied changing the DNS server settings? Have a look here:

the speed in my bedroom with range extender was @260mpbs, after tech support fiddling same test, same position, same laptop, @90mbps sooo i dunno, if i'm next to main router via ethernet full speed, but extender speed is now 1/3 of previous before i contacted tech support.

Are your speedtest results on a device with a wireless connection? If so they will will always be liable to the vagaries of your internal setup.
As far as connecting to eBay is concerned, do you have the security settings on the eero active? Or perhaps other AV systems in place?
