Hi, I have an issue with Ebay being blocked for me most of the time, occasionally it works for a few days and then its blocked again, I can only access it via a vpn, this is the error
"Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebay.co.uk/myb/WatchList?" on this server.
Reference #18.1e3f655f.1774491197.fd2b810
https://errors.edgesuite.net/18.1e3f655f.1774491197.fd2b810"
its the same regardless of browser or deletion of cookies etc. Does anyone have a solution?
P.S in HomeSafe settings i have scam and virus enabled but no other protection (other than win11 firewall/antiV)
Thank you and Rgds
Edward

OK, that's fine, both Google, I just use different settings from preference. But if that's what you have in your eero settings then it is not the issue. Thank you for checking and confirming. I think I will leave you in the capable hands of @KeithFrench going forwards! 🙂

hey ferguson, mines is similar to that
IPv4 primary is 8.8.8.8
but
IPv4 secondary is 8.8.4.4 not the 208.67.222.222 shown above?

OK, just to satisfy my urge for changing the DNS settings "properly" in the eero here's how to do it.
First, from the home page of the eero app make sure that the security settings are turned off:
Then tap on Settings:
Then tap on Advanced networking:
And that then on DNS, where you can change the setting from ISP DNS to Customise.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by "control panel?"

Thankyou for your help Keith, when ebay is blocked again i shall send you the results from a tracert ping

i should mention i changed the ethernets dns in control panel to googles but that didn't help. i have no idea why i have access now when it was blocked just a couple of hours ago, and i have been outside gardening so i wasn't even logged in.

Thanks for the PM @loxocemus there is nothing wrong with the ping, but then it is working OK at the moment. Next time it goes wrong, PM me again with the results from a trace route. From a Windows PC command prompt, this would be:-
tracert ebay.co.uk
As I mentioned at the start, it may be necessary to use Wireshark as well, but let's wait & see what happens when or if it goes wrong again.

oh yes i tried edge chrome and firefox and mobile chrome all would return the same access denied error, via wifi and ethernet.

Possibly @ferguson I would just like to prove where this rejection message is coming from first.

@loxocemus No worries, let's see if we can sort it completely. I noticed the "access denied" message came from Edge, have you tried a different browser e.g. Chrome?
@KeithFrench Thanks. Does the above make sense?

i just checked eero's dns it is googles 8.8.8.8, I'm sure that isn't something i did, but i have been trying a few things via tech support but I'm fairly sure i never messed with the eero app.
i do appreciate urs and keiths help.

Hi @ferguson
Not with a rejection message, that must be coming from somewhere. A dodgy DNS resolution will most likely mean that you do not reach your destination, as the resolved IP address would be wrong.
yesterday
You do not think it is even worth trying alternative DNS settings in the eero itself?
yesterday
Hi, ebay is now accessible..., i did not change anything from my last access denied attempt. But this is not unusual and happens fairly often, i do not expect the access to last, it can be anything from less than an hour to a couple of days. I don't change anything or use windows any differently during these times (my ip has not yet been changed either).

HI @loxocemus
I don't think that the DNS server will have much difference in your case. With an access denied message, you are most likely reaching a destination to get that sort of message returned. If there were a DNS server issue, then you would most likely not reach your destination. Please see my previous post & PM me the ping result and perhaps even better, include the output from a trace route to ebay.co.uk as well.

Well then you should, via the eero app, as I suggested earlier. Try Google DNS at 8.8.8.8 which is very reliable. Let us know if that solves your problem.

hi, tech support had me change the dns of the wifi adapter in windows control panel, i have not altered the eero settings in any way.

@loxocemus Did you change the DNS settings in the eero itself, as per the link I posted earlier?
