Moving external phone line cable due to building work

We are having a small extension done and need to re route the cable that goes from our roof to the master socket around the front of the house. We want to keep the master socket in the same location but need the wire making longer to go around a new porch. How do we contact someone to arrange this (this doesn't seem to fit into any of he categories on the online chat).

Many thanks

Morning,

I'm sorry to hear that this hasn't been resolved for you. Are you still ok with the Low Volume Request engineer charge and I can pass this back to our LVR Team so they can contact you directly?

Thanks

Michelle

Hello. We are still struggling to get this issue resolved and need some further help please. This does not seem to be an Open Reach issue and the link provided isn't really relevant. Please could you consider again

  • To clarify, we have a telephone cable which comes to our property gable end from a pole in the street. This is fine (presumably Open reach). However from this point we need the cable making longer so that it can run neatly around the front of the house to get to where it enters the house. The master socket does not need to be moved so it's just the external cable between the main overhead line and the entry point. The photo attached (highlighted in yellow) shows how it is currently dangling because it is not long enough to position it neatly.  How can we get this sorted please. Is this a TalkTalk issue? Please note that relocating this cable would involve working above first floor level (previously when an engineer visited he was unable to undertake the work due to this being higher than the ladder and requiring different equipment).

Many thanks

Hi presence,

As the engineer was unable to complete the work I think your need to speak to Openreach directly about this. There are contact details here - Report damage, vandalism or a health & safety issue | Openreach

I'll re-escalate this thread for you, @presence, as it's been nearly 6 months since it was in the workflow.

Hi there. We didn't manage to get the work completed as the engineer that was assigned was only able to do an internal master socket move - he suggested they would likely need a cherry-picker to access the cable at height on the outside of the property. I believe he made a note on their system to that effect. Can we try to re-arrange this now, please?

Hi Neil,

Can you please update your community profile to include your:

  • Name
  • Telephone number or Account number
  • Alternative contact number

We'll then look into this further. Please do not post this information on this thread. Once you've updated your profile please post in your topic to confirm it's updated.

Thanks

Hi Michelle,

Yes, we’d like to get this booked in.

I’d estimate we are talking about lengthening the current cable which runs from the apex of our roof (2 storey house) to the master socket from about 20m to be about 25m long. There is an opportunity to make this easier as we currently have scaffold in place up to that level. I’d suggest we try to move quickly before that is removed.

Many thanks,

Neil

Hi presence,

Thanks for your post. This would be classed as a Low Volume Request (LVR)

This is chargeable at £128.40. If you'd like to go ahead with this then please can you provide a brief description of the work that is required and the approximate distances and we can raise this to our LVR Team to contact you to arrange this visit.

Thanks

Michelle
