Our landline started failing and stopped working ten days or so ago.  After many hours on my mobile and via the chat on the computer, an engineer (Mark) visited this morning.  There is a fault outside the house, which he realises when he is here, but does not register centrally.  I asked him to copy me the report that he sent and he did:

"Here is the error message I got while running a TAM test on premises. Fault Dis in Network. Break in cabling underground or overhead at a pcp or a dp"

But now I am getting message from Talktalk saying the fault is resolved.  IT IS NOT!  We still have no land line
