Phone line inactive

Hi my phone line does not work it’s been checked but when some one calls there is no sound. This is the second time this has happened. I changed phones after the first time now it’s happened again. I want to cancel the landline and have tried for days to speak to someone about it as I’m close to cancelling my broadband too as I find the inability to speak to a human disgusting
