Contract renewed - Can I keep previous TV 4K box or am I expected to send back?

I've just renewed my contract and got full fibre installed today. Very happy with this and hoping it proves to be more reliable (have had a lot of drop outs recently). I was asked if I wanted to keep the TV to which I said yes. The only reason I have the TV on my package is to record, I have a smart TV so there is no need to have the box for online streaming. I was not expecting to receive a new TV hub as part of renewing my contract and upon research it no longer has the function to record. Then letter that came with it states if I don't send my old equipment back I will be charged £50. So that tells me I am expected to switch to the new TV Hub and send the 4K box back.

So my question is can I keep using the 4K box and just send the old router back? Otherwise I'll be cancelling the TV service because if I can't record there is absolutely no point in me having it. I will just pay out for my own device instead. Expensive outlay but probably better in the long run.

Nice telly, have you tried formatting a flash drive in windows and then adding to the TV(try all 3 usb ports)?

LG Nanocell. Got plenty of flash drives laying about but wasn't going to buy another hard drive in hope that it worked. I remember the recommendation was to use a hard drive also.

Hi @natalie-1 thanks for the info, what make TV is it? I'd just send the router back then as I'm paying for the TV service.

Yes my smart TV is supposed to be able record but I've never been able to get it to work. Doesn't recognise the external device I plug in. Tried both external hard drive and a USB flash drive. My colleague has the same TV had found the same issue. I contacted their support and all theh said was get another hard drive.

Letter just says return old devices, doesn't specify which exactly.

Hi @natalie-1 your smart TV will be able to record, just add a memory stick 128 GB will hold an awful lot of really.

Alternatively read the return request very carefully send back only what is specifically requested?

Your post has also been escalated for an "official" response.
