just setting up tv box but i don't have an aerial. Will this still work?

@eagle25 you will need an aerial for normal TV.

 

As @KeithFrench says you will be able to use the catch up apps, but sometimes ITVX and C4 require a working aerial to register it.

 

For catch up only, if your TV is not smart, an Amazon fire stick may be your best option.

 

If you wish to return the box you will need to phone and speak to the loyalty team and request removal of the TV charge.

Not knowing the model that you have, it might still be able to stream content from the internet, but you need an aerial to receive Freeview via it.
