Got charged after leaving, instead of being able to get refund

I left TalkTalk on 29th Nov when my contract was up. I paid my Nov bill for 15th Nov - 14th Dec. Today I got a text saying I had a payment overdue. Logged in to see I got a Dec bill. In the breakdown, it had a -£20.56 credit for 30th Nov - 14th Dec but I was charged for 15th Dec - 14th Jan which left the bill at £22.55.

I contacted TalkTalk and was told they'd fix it and I'd be able to request a refund once updated. I logged in later to see an adjustment of £22.55 credit leaving the account balance at £0. When I contacted TalkTalk again, I was told credit was already applied, that the line is disconnected and that I'm not due a refund. After explaining I should have a balance of £20.56 credit, they said my final bill had not been issued and it should be issued 15th Jan and I could request a refund afterwards.

What's the likelihood of waiting another 2 weeks and for it to be wrong again? Is it possible to get it sorted now?

Prior to my contract ending, my monthly cost was £28.61. My Nov bill consisted of an in contract £14.11 (15th Nov - 29th Nov) charge and an out of contract £20.56 (30th Nov - 14th Dec) charge. The £34.67 was taken by DD and after leaving TalkTalk, I definitely didn't remove my DD. I also didn't get an email about a Dec bill but after getting a text saying payment was overdue, I logged in to see £22.55 (15 Dec 2024 - 14 Jan 2025) which consisted of £43.11 charge and -£20.56 credit for 30 Nov - 14 Dec.

I left on 29th Nov when my contract ended but paid up till 14 Dec which was credited back but since I was charged for 15 Dec - 14th Jan, I contacted customer support earlier. They adjusted the balance to £0.00 so I'm not hopeful that the "final" bill will correctly re-credit the account as they essentially waived the Dec bill charges but in doing so they also eliminated the credit that had been applied too.

Staff will not be back on here before Thursday now.

They can check it all for you, but what was your usual monthly amount?

End of service billing can get very complicated as there's a notice period / end of service date to take into account; possibly some days that were actually out of contract so charged at full price; Talktalk always bills a month ahead so there's another bill for the full period, in case you change your mind and don't leave; takes another to catch up on the fact that you did leave etc etc.

You are advised to leave your Direct Debit in place till after a bill for £0.00 has been received. The simplest way to claim back the credit is from My Account, using the same banking details.

After a bill is issued, that one can't be changed, just as though you'd received it on paper.

There may be a credit showing in your transaction history once the account is updated, but generally speaking you won't see the full story clearly till the NEXT bill is made up. That will reflect all changes made this month.

The bill after that should show £0.00, @DH0101.

A payment overdue might occur if you removed the DD too soon.
