Hi.
I was charged for DD rejection but my payment date was previously set to 5th and try was 2th.
7th I got text message that I need to pay balance to avoid charges so I immediately pay by one-off card payment.
Despite this fact I had another try to charge DD on 13th (I had talk talk balance 0.00) and probably this trigger fee for rejection.
So at first - payment charge was days before set date and despite the fact I payed the balance I was charged for rejection.

Hi streetpl1
There is a issue with Direct debits for ex shell customers, however your account is not part of that issue, your bill was produced advising the payment date and the payment did fail. I can see that customer services have raised a credit for the charge on this occasion.
Your bill is produced on the 1st each month.

@streetpl1, there seem to have been a few cases recently of the DD date being extraordinarily early - but did you get a notification email ahead of that?
Talktalk seems to justify the early payment by saying "well it was mentioned in the notification". It's easy to assume it's always going to say the same sort of date, and not be ready for it if it isn't.
The trouble with one-off card payments is that the money doesn't always actually clear that very day - you'll often see a credit / debit card statement showing payment eg for shopping two or three days after you know you paid.
So it maybe didn't clear in time to prevent the automatic second attempt to take the money.
There will always be some variation in dates, but most companies take money "on or soon after".
This issue is upsetting a few people. Staff will look into this and get back to you - they are on here daytime most weekdays.
