Help please
I have run out of ideas for sorting out my slow broadband.
The problem is the broadband speed to my computer gradually slows down
from the expected 50Mbps down / 10Mpbs up after a Factory Reset to sub 20Mbps down / 6Mbps up
in the hours following the factory reset - using the stripped back setup below:
Talktalk router: Huawei DG8041W.
Router plugged into test socket on the master socket.
Windows 11 PC connected to router via wired ethernet.
All other wired ethernet connections removed.
Wireless disabled on router settings (Also tried turning off all wireless devices).
Using the above setup I have also tried:
Replacement microfilter.
Another Windows PC.
Replacement cables: Ethernet to PC and cable from test socket to router.
Different ethernet socket on the router.
None of the above makes any difference.
The above problem also affects the wifi - Enabling this and placing a wirelessly
connected PC (with no wired ethernet) right next to the router results in a similar outcome to the wired ethernet tests above.
My discussions with Talktalk (REP-14511204) have been inconclusive:
The final suggestion was to book a £75 OpenReach Technician visit to test the line.
However during my REP-14511204 conversation the line was tested remotely and found to be OK.
In addition the speed "to the router" test is always stable at around the expected 54 to 57MBps and independant of the slow down seen at the PC.
The above would indicate the line is OK so it is unclear if a visit from OpenReach would help.
The router was also remotely tested and found to be OK. Are there any other router tests I can try?
Further suggestions as to what to try gratefully recieved.

Hi Aileen,
It's showing 'fulfillment requested' so it should be with you sometime this week hopefully

Hi AileenS,
I'm glad to hear that router has resolved the issue. I'll send a returns bag to send the old router back in 🙂

If the bag wasn't sent out, it's simply a matter of staff on here getting it sent out for you, @AileenS.
Talktalk gives you 42 days to return old routers. Keeping the certificate of posting proves you have done it.
With recycling there's no proof.
Staff will be back on here from Monday.

I didn't get a returns bag.
The letter sent with the router gives me the option of sending the old router back (for recycling by TalkTalk! ) or disposing at my local recycling centre (my preferred option). I don't want to be chased / charged for not returning the router if dispose of it at my local recycling cente.
Please can someone at TalkTalk let me know it is OK for me to recycle the old router at my local recycling centre.
Thanks

@AileenS, use the returns bag that staff requested you use. Keep a certificate of posting, as you can then track it's receipt at the other end.

Hi Michelle
The new router appears to have fixed the broadband instability problems and the data rate now comfortably exceeds the guranteed minimum 🙂
Shall I recycle the old router?
Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi Aileen,
I'm sorry to hear this. I can see from your post that you've already tested your router at the test socket and tested wired. Would you like us to send a replacement router (Sagemcom wifi hub) for testing purposes and to rule this out? We would also send a router returns bag so that original router can be returned.
Thanks
Michelle
