I have a talktalk plus box and used the red button to record a series on ITV and some of the episodes have failed to record. All the episodes came on at the same time. I have done this previously without any failures. So what has happened./ changed. I note that ITVX has been introduced and stopped me from recording via the ITV Hub. Is ITVX responsible for my recording failures?

I should add though that failed recordings can also be down to a poor signal strength that can be affected by the weather.
It might be worth checking with neighbours or local Facebook groups to see if people have been affected by poor pictures recently.

No, the relevance of the ITV Hub and ITVX has no effect on recordings. Recording are made via the Freeview signal. You have never been able to record via the ITV Hub.
Unfortunately these boxes are approaching the end of life and are no longer available and missed recordings are a symptom of possible hard drive failure. Once this happens you will, on turning on the box, get caught in a loop and not be able to get past the YouView logo.
You could try a maintenance reset, without losing recordings, which will attempt to repair the hard drive.
If that does not work a full factory reset will be the only other option, but you will lose your recordings and in some cases it can bring the hard drive failure forward, so the box breaks.
If you wish to try, instructions can be found here.

TalkTalk no longer provide boxes that record and have not done so for over 3 years now.
There are options for recordable boxes, such as the Manhattan T4R freeview recorder from retail outlets, or the YouView based Bt /EE Pro box. The best place to buy the latter is CeX online and this can record 4 programmes at a time.
Hope this helps and good luck.
