Trying to change the settings in my dad's router and when we enter the username and password off the card from the router is keeps coming back "incorrect credentials".
Have reset the router to default factory settings, tried again and get the same result.
Any suggestions ?

I left it plugged in the test socket and it was/is switched on but now flashing orange without any intervention.
The last time this happened was when Openreach had a problem in the North side of the whole town when everyone in the vicinity lost connection

I've checked the connection stats again but it appears that the router is switched off.
Is the router still at the test socket and switched on at the moment?

Just connected to the test socket, done a speedtest and get 20.07mb.

If the same fault is still present and the speed doesn't increase at the test socket then we can discuss arranging an engineer visit.

I have completed a line test which hasn't detected any faults but I can see that the sync speed has dropped.
Has the replacement router been connected at the test socket? The next step will be an Openreach engineer visit.

Yes please - send a replacement router first, I will do his installation (but I'm confident he did it ok) and take it from there.
As far as I am aware, the router is in the correct socket.

I've completed a line test which has detected a potential fault towards the property. Is the router at the test socket at the moment?

Done - if there is no problem with his line, can he have a different router as this one clearly isn't working properly ?
He threw his own purchased old one away after installing this one 🙄 silly as it was less than a year old !
