Hi
i need wifi optimisation turned off again, as my wifi channels keep changing overnight to congested ones, ironic given the features name.
shocking that technical support don't have the option to turn this off.
even more shocking that there isn't a on & off toggle for wifi optimisation locally, within the routers firmware.
may take this to the ombudsman once I've spoken with the case manager, as this shouldn't be on by default for customers.

Thanks again for your comments. I can see that Debbie has fed this back to relevant team
Thanks

Again thanks for apology.
But il reiterate the point, that several things need to change.
The main ones being that the WiFi optimisation feature should really have a on & off toggle within the routers firmware to allow customers local control, it's not right that what seems to be the only way to get it turned off is to come to a Internet forum. Failing that, users should be opted out of the feature on talk talks end by default, not opted in, as there is already a auto channel switching option within the routers firmware, to which technical support can instruct to switch on or off if needs be.
As well as technical support not being informed about this feature and how to actually pass information to the customer to get it turned off. And the potential for wrongfully sold goods as a incorrect remedy.

Hi christophski,
Thanks for the feedback, I'm really sorry if you've been incorrectly advised about wifi optimisation, and for any inconvenience.

Hi Debbie.
Many thanks for getting it turned off, il monitor my channels over the coming days to see if my WiFi channels are remaining static.
Unfortunately though I do feel this auto opt In on this inconvenient feature needs looking at by higher ups, and ultimately being turned off by default.
I'm concerned as my experience with technical support contained quite a few misteps for example being told that talk talk does not have control over my WiFi chanel settings , only to then be told technical support can't turn it off and only then telling me to request it be turned off here once i linked them to several instances of users complaining about the feature here, technical support needs to be informed and suggest this to customers who have channels issues right away, instead of the customer having to show technical support.
Bear in mind this interaction was a few days after another one I had where my first technical support operative told me the issue was now sorted, it wasn't.
My second interaction also tried suggesting that my WiFi channel changing could be because of engineering works within the area, this is of course nonsense, and they quite frankly didn't know what they were talking about,.and probably just wanted me of the phone.
Another concern is the 2 attempts at trying to sell me WiFi range extenders as a "solution" despite me telling them that I had already investigated things like the dBm, talk talks diagnostics etc with all coming back perfectly fine. It begs the question, how many customers have been sold these things wrongfully, and more importantly it hasn't solved their issue? The smart money would be probably a fair few.
Something needs to change and be done about this and il be discussing all of this in my case manager call.

Hi christophski
Apologies for this. I have now switched the WIFI optimisation off.
I have also fed this back to our Devices Team, apologies again.

Because being pedantic is really defusing my frustration right?
Im quite obviously refering to stability.
If this is a network level feature at talk talks end, given the amount of complaints within this community regarding it, users would probably find it much more helpful if the features of talk talks network were changed to a network that does allow user local control, failing that, given the amount of complaints, it would probably be wiser to get rid of this unhelpful feature all together.
More importantly, I'm concerned about the amount of users who aren't tech savvy, and have thus been sold things like range extenders via talk talks "technical support" incorrectly, and that don't know they have to come to a Internet forum to get their issue resolved.
Talk talks own technical support didn't even point me this way, until I started sending them the links from this community showing the issues existence. Before this, the technical support told me talk talk had no control regarding the auto changing of users WiFi channels.
Absolutely wild.

Wow, you had a WiFi enabled computer, let alone router, back in 1997, the year it was introduced? Very impressive. 🙂

one where my devices didn't disconnect this much due to a very unhelpful ''feature'' lol

I am afraid there isn't. I am trying to cast my mind back to what sort of internet we had in 1997 ....

once again though, there really should be a option to turn "wifi optimisation'' off locally within the routers settings, its not 1997.

It is a network level feature so it can't be turned off as such at a user level. I realise it is frustrating for you, but at least you know there is a solution at hand.

no FW updates or factory resets, only power cycles.
the issue cropped up again pretty much after renewal.
absolutely wild that in 2023 a local option to turn this off still hasn't been provided via a firmware update.

Have you done a full reset of your router, or had a firmware upgrade since it was last turned off. The support team will of course look at this for you as soon as they can.
