Just a trivial question.
Is MAIL.talktalk.net at port 993, the same as IMAP.talktalk.net at port 993?
Which is true name of the server?

I'd stick with IMAP if I was you.

I am currently using IMAP.
I was trying to use both a POP and an IMAP on the same account, to see the effect. Off course using different ports.
(But at this stage setting the POP to retain a copy of the emails when downloading.)
I have not achieved this yet.
But really, my original question was which of the 2, mail.talktalk.net, or imap.talktalk.net is more direct in accessing IMAP.
Thanks
Bill

To me, the 2 articles suggest
to use 'mail.talktalk.net' for either POP or IMAP,
and to use imap.talktalk.net, only for IMAP.
But I would need to do 4 longish tests to prove that.

If you're using pop use mail. if you're using Imap use Imap.

Don't you see that the 2 articles contradict each other.
One says to use the incoming server, mail.talktalk.net.
The other says to use the incoming server, imap.talktalk.net.

The settings we advise to use are IMAP 993 and POP 995

The page you directed me to, is 'Using TalkTalk Webmail'. I haven't got a question about Webmail.
My question is about setting up a TalkTalk/Tiscali account, within an email app.
In https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Setting-up-Email-in-Windows-mail/ta-p/2894287,
-->Check you settings, the following is advised:
Incoming email server - imap.talktalk.net:993:1
In https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Email-settings-to-access-TalkTalk-emails/ta-p/2204399,
the following is advised:
Incoming mail server mail.talktalk.net 993 (the port for IMAP)
So, what is the difference between 'imap.talktalk.net' and 'mail.talktalk.net'?
One of them must be the original name of the server, and the other an alias. Which is which?
(Yes I understand it is a trivial question.)
Thank you.
