I'm trying to forward some phishing emails to talktalk, but when sending I get the following error message. Is it genuine? Is it really as simple as waiting an hour and trying again? Why can't I just send the messages?? I sent a few from a list of about nine messages quite OK to talktalk, then talktalk stopped me.

The main issue in exporting and importing a CSV file of contacts is to match up the data fields. Put the CSV file into a spreadsheet for manipulation.
A tip is to export from Thunderbird a sample CSV file containing all the fields you need to import. Then match up the fields in the CSV file from WLM before importing to Thunderbird.

Using the link you gave me to copy my WLM contacts into FB doesn't work. When you do eventually find the MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add-on it's corrupt. Easy to find instructions for moving vcf contacts one at a time, but I have over 500. Doesn't work properly if you try the csv option, because you only get the name and one email address - no good if the contact has multiple email addresses.
I'll search the web for other methods to do this, but meanwhile will leave this thread open.

Okey dokey. I'll work through the "switching" instructions. I don't use the calendar.

Just click on the X top right of the security window. May be multiple windows there. Recheck the server settings to make sure the incoming security is set to SSL/TLS and that should set the port to 993.
Thunderbird supports CalDAV and CardDAV but that isn't a feature of WLM so the emails and contacts need to be exported and imported into Thunderbird as follows: Switching from WLM to Thunderbird The calendar is more problematic.
As for WLM, I'd just change the account password on WLM so it doesn't connect to the mailbox.

So do I just "Cancel"? It won't let me Cancel, so I am stuck in Thunderbird with the screen I sent you
Are you able to help me bring my address book / contacts across from WLM to Thunderbird?

If the incoming server is set as mail.talktalk.net then there shouldn't be a security exception necessary. Just ignore the pop-up.
I'll have to look into that because the auto-detect appears to be picking up the certificate for talktalk.co.uk which is not expected.

Brilliant, so far. I now have this screen:-
Which button do I press now? Do I "Get Certificate"? Do I uncheck "Permanently store this exception"? etc.
And after this, my next question is, how do I stop WLM from receiving emails? I have set Thunderbird as default, so will that automatically stop WLM from receiving?

Setup manual settings for an IMAP email account (recommended) for any TalkTalk Mail Username. If you wish to use POP3 then the only difference is the incoming port: 995.

Yes please, I'd appreciate help setting up Thunderbird.

TalkTalk will need to see fully authenticated mail outgoing and a secure mail connection to the mailbox or the next thing is that TalkTalk will limit your mailbox to webmail only access.
Just to say that I use a unified mailbox in TalkTalk Mail webmail and in parallel with Thunderbird for desktop access and other email clients like BlueMail on mobile devices. So, I can help you set up Thunderbird - if you wish for additional guidance.

Hi Gondola,
Many thanks, helpful. The messages I'm trying to send are all going to talktalk and are all phishing emails. But maybe that's not relevant. I'm using Chrome on Windows 10.
Will investigate Thunderbird, but meantime I can receive emails OK which is the important bit. Will try later and/or send using Talk Talk Mail webmail.

TT603 indicates your mail message is not authenticated and you've been rate limited on sending mail. This is because you're using Windows Live Mail that is not supported by TalkTalk Mail because it does not have the required TLS 1.2 security encryption. I can see there's no encryption at all. So, your mail is potentially at risk of being intercepted and both the content and password being obtained.
The rate limiting may be relaxed in an hour but can take up to 24 hours.
Given that Windows Live Mail (WLM) is not supported by TalkTalk Mail, you'll need to look for an email client that is supported on your Operating Systems and that does support TLS 1.2 encryption standard that's required for TalkTalk Mail. Something like Thunderbird that is still supported on Windows 7 and that contains its own TLS 1.2 ciphers.
Do you require any additional help in choosing a new email client? The alternative is to use TalkTalk Mail webmail on an up to date Internet browser like Edge, Chrome or Firefox, for example.
