Faulty ADSL Cable

Hello.

My ADSL cable that connects my router to my BT data socket is faulty. I have borrowed one to test this and the borrowed one works.

As this cable came with my TalkTalk router, could TalkTalk please send me a replacement ADSL cable (2 metres long with RJ11 male connectors at each end).

Many thanks,

Geoff B

Hi Chris.

The old TalkTalk cable that failed also had two pins. However, the local computer stores don't seem to sell them anymore (just 4-pin cables instead).

Not to worry, the 4-pin cable I bought the other day works, so I'm back up and running again.

Best wishes,

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

How many pins does the old TalkTalk cable have?

Hi Chris.

The new ADSL cable has arrived, but it doesn't seem to work ("no internet connection").

I've now bought another cable from the local computer shop and that works fine.

The only physical difference I can see is that the cable that TalkTalk sent me has only two of the four pins in the RJ11 connectors wired, whereas the one I bought has all four pins wired.

Is it possible that the one TalkTalk just sent me is an older version that somehow won't work these days, or perhaps it was a genuinely faulty cable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime, the cable I bought has given me access to the internet once again.

Many thanks for any comments/advice.

Hi Geoff,

I've ordered a replacement cable, it should be with you within a couple of working days

Hi Divsec, thanks for your reply.

I don't know how it became faulty, I'm afraid. There's nothing wrong with the router, just needs a new cable.

Regards,

Hi @Geoff_B , your post has been escalated and you should hear soon.

How did the cable become faulty, vacuum cleaner or dog?

Likely outcome will be a replacement router.

I don't work here and all my opinions are my own.
