Had one of the new Amazon Echos arrive today. Then the problems with the wifi started with the Samsung TV.

Finally tracked it down to the Hub3 giving the same DHCP address to the echo and the TV.  Sorted by giving the devices static addresses. Problem is why this is happening.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

The Hub 3, just like the Hubs 1 & 2 before it, supports No-IP. Go to their website & create a domain of your choosing.

Log into the router & go to:-

Advanced Settings > My Router > DynDNS

Then enter your No-IP username & password & put your domain in the hostname field. That is all there is to do.

Hi Keith

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Yes of course, I did mean 'reserved addresses'.

Now, the last few days I have had the hub3 on test in an area which has no other wifi anywhere near it. It is a hub3 fault. It suddenly drops the power of the wifi . One minute you have this wonderful powerful signal. For ages it stays there and then without reason, drops through the floor. It does this on all channels. There is no consistency with this happening. Pro wifi scanner shows no other signal around.

Strangely the downstairs toilet gets no wifi from anywhere else😂 . Tested solidly over 3 complete daily cycles of 24 hours.

I am thinking either over heating or power brick problem. I have another power brick so can replace that.

I am not that bothered though as long as the telephone works. That is a great deal better than that awful Grandstream unit. Couldn't trust that at all.

I have not done anything about getting the static IP yet with No IP. As neither of my routers supports DDNS, I have to install additional software. I use a Windows 7 netbook, Windows 10 desktop and 3x Windows 11 desktops. Obviously not on the desktop as the desk has no room on it with speakers, Tado hub, Google hub, Echo Dot, network switches, 3 hard drives, power socket bank, Dect phone, KVM switches, volume controls and switches, mobile phone and mouse and mat. Plus occasionally I manage to get a cup of tea and some Rich Tea biscuits on there as well. I understand the hub3 supports DDNS but have to see how all this will setup with my other router issuing DCHP to wired and wireless devices.

It is going to take a lot of 'tinkering🤣' . Oh yes and 3 monitors 24inch on a stand. I need a bigger desk!

If you have any info on setting up No Ip on computers it would be nice to see.

Hi @MerlinBengal

First, you said earlier, "So, I went through the router list of IP addresses and those that had the same IP I gave static addresses to." do you mean DHCP reserved IP addresses?

You have said today that you want a static IP address for the Hub 3, by that do you mean a WAN IP address? As you have been advised by @Gliwmaeden2 that is not possible. However, you don't need to if you register with a DDNS provider that is compatible with the Hub 3, like no-ip. I can provide full details on how to set this up, if required.

Now to the WiFi reception issues. Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment; this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz band can sometimes have a better range; however, this all depends on your local area.

In other words, I offer a free, impartial analysis of your Wi-Fi network and will try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.

I only send this out to people who request it.

No you can't have a static IP with a Talktalk residential service, @MerlinBengal.

WiFi is dropping now. Losing connections to lamp3 in garage continuously. First it's there, then it's gone. With the famous words 'lamp3 isn't responding etc etc'.

Rebooted and moved router and still poor connections, so it has bit the dust for me! Switched off Wifi and reverted to my Linksys router which has significantly more stable and stronger Wifi.

DHCP still handled by the hub3 or I lose the telephone, which is a pain. I need a static IP for thew hub3 to enable my linksys to control the network. Not sure TalkTalk do that or not. Any idea?

I still have the other Grandstream that they supplied but it is faulty and drops outgoing voice whenever it wants to, very unreliable.

Hi @MerlinBengal

I have never, ever seen this at all with any TalkTalk router. Try a factory reset of the Hub 3.

Well, I bought the new Amazon Echo Dot Max which arrived yesterday. Installed easily as there isn't anything to do 😁

Everything appeared to be working fine. I could do the usual play music from my computers to the device, ask questions, get responses for time etc.

It was only in the evening when I sat down with my old mum to stream Line of Duty from the computer to the Samsung s97 (2025) that the problems started. Initially, all was great then the screen goes blank and the TV goes back through the network analysis due to no connection. This happened 4 times before I go bored and decided to see what was wrong.

The router had started issuing the same IP to other devices, like the Lamp3 in my garage and the TV.  This case 192.168.1.31. Multiple times.

Now the Lamp3 has been a pain in the backside on any TalkTalk router, works one minute, next unavailable but always came back with a slight move of the router. I put this down to dodgy wifi connection.

So, I went through the router list of IP addresses and those that had the same IP I gave static addresses to. So far this has worked.

Lamp3 works again and the TV plays streaming perfectly.

There are no quirks to my setup anymore as all the computers I have put back to basic network operation due to far too many complexities throwing themselves at me on the trading computers. So back to simple basics. This in no way affected to router or DHCP on the TalkTalk router.

Stay tuned 😂

Curious one, that. I don't use a Hub 3 myself, but I will nevertheless follow this thread with interest.
