Fibre 150 VOIP

Today I signed up for Fibre 150 with VOIP. Initially it was Fibre 65 VOIP, but the agent said he could make it Fibre 150 VOIP for the same price. He assured me that we would still be able to use our normal phone and that all I needed would be supplied with the exception of a four port extension cable.

I have downloaded the eero app, but as I don't have the eero yet I couldn't go far but it mentions plugging into a modem, although I was assured everything I would need will be supplied I don't remember any mention of a modem, but his speech was very fast with a strong accent.

Is there somewhere that I can download or read the guide that will be supplied explaining how to install everything, just in case he made a mistake or left something out. The phone requirement is very important.

Thanks for the links, in the end it was more helpful looking at other ISP videos.

I now know the internal box (ONT) will be around the size of an iPad mini, and that it will need a power point. I also know that as the Eero only has two rear sockets that I can use an unmanaged switch to cater for my non wifi desktop.

I also currently have two additional hard wired routers working as bridges giving brilliant wifi everywhere in the house (a big thank you to Keith French for that). The switch box will enable me to continue using them, they cost me £17 each, much less than an additional eero.

I also now know why I need at least four electric sockets (extension lead).

All the above items influence where the fibre will enter the house and are not made clear by TT when you sign up. The agent from TT was like talking to the manager of the Marigold Hotel on steroids.

Thank you to all those who took the time to reply.

Hi, Yes I am an existing customer, I have been with TalkTalk since they launched broadband. I was given three options at the end of my contract, renew what I am already on but no more included calls, move to fibre (65) and VoIP package, or move to fibre 35 without voip.

Fibre (65) and VoIP was cheaper than staying with phone cables without any calls, in the end I got Fibre 150 with VoIP and an Eero for less than Fibre 65.

That last link is the first one to come up for me.

Many people find videos of instructions very unhelpful. They can be amateurish and not necessarily easy to follow compared with step by step written instructions.

I actually decided to test your statement.

Type in "voip" as someone would do. Nothing. 4 results. None about setting it up.

Type in "phone setup" and you have to search 38 results. The only remotely close result is "PROBLEMS USING YOUR DIGITAL PHONE SERVICE" but someone might not click this since it's not directly about setting up the device. You would have to click that link and then click a little down arrow that explains it briefly.

The link you sent mentions "However, you may need more open power sockets if you’re using any additional peripherals, such as a Grandstream Digital Voice Adapter or a Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) telephone."

That takes you to the setup page but I would argue it's still not great as people are video learners. Actually finding this page with the video is near impossible from search: https://new.talktalk.co.uk/digital-voice

But doesn't matter the question has been answered.

@gameinn and @zebidee88, there are extensive guidelines in the forum search engine, for example:

https://community.talktalk.co.uk/eerosetup

Put any question about setting up, plugging in your phone etc in that search engine and you should find really useful information. It's quite wrong to say it's hidden, @gameinn.

Where you already a TalkTalk customer? I am looking to sign up but not being offered voip. Apparently it's only for existing customers.

They seem to hide this video for some reason which should explain how to install everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyQRicd_bjY

You will have an eero 6 so you can go to 35 seconds in.
