Full fibre and power line adapters

Hi Everyone!

We are currently on Fibre 65 (which apparently is “full” fibre) and have a landline which uses an old copper connection.  We have been advised that if we want to keep the copper line for the landline then it will cost £12/month more.

Suggestion is to move to full fibre 65 with digital voice where copper line will go but we keep our phone number.

Currently we use tp-link power line adapters so that we have a wired connection to our PCs upstairs.  My main PC doesn’t even have a wireless card in it so it can’t use Wi-Fi and it has to be a wired connection.

Should the powerline adapters still work or will an alternate solution be required?
Hard wiring a cable is not really an option unfortunately as our upstairs office room is on completely the opposite side of the house to where the cable comes in.

@flaneur  there is no upgrade order on your account, you are still on fibre65 data only.  call the loyalty team on 03451720088.

Hi @Michelle-TalkTalk or @Chris-TalkTalk (or anyone else from TalkTalk)

Would you be able to check that our plan has been updated at all?

The thing is, this was originally meant to have been done a couple of weeks ago via live chat, but when I did not receive any subsequent email or other confirmation, I got back in touch and found that it had not been completed.

Having then gone through the whole thing again, once more confirmed via the live chat on Jan 9th, as of now I still have no email or other confirmation that the changes are going through.  And when I log into my account, it still shows the “old” package name.

So I’m not sure if there is some tech issue, staff issue, or I’m just being too impatient!  I don’t mind waiting but it would be good to know that things are progressing.

Thanks very much.

Hi Chris,

Yes I have been on live chat today and should be getting full fibre 150 with digital voice.  I guess the new router will be sent out in the near future.

Hopefully the change will work this time - I went through it all on 30th Dec and it turned out it hadn’t actually been done.

Thanks!

Hi flaneur,

Yes your current service is full fibre. Have you decided to go for the VoIP option?

Thanks, I have added details to my profile.

The letter I received said “Currently your broadband service is provided by a full fibre connection, and your landline service is provided by an old copper connection… “

Good to hear that our powerline adapters should still function.  Current speeds are fine for us so as long as it doesn’t get slower it will be fine.

Thanks again.

Powerline adapters will work with any broadband source, subject to maximum transmission speeds.

I am not sure that you are currently on a "full" fibre service? Nor about the advice you have received about your landline. If you would like the support team to look into this for you make sure that your personal details including TalkTalk phone number or account number are complete on your community profile (click here) so that they can link your forum identity with your account and then wait for them to respond.

I cannot answer your power line adaptor question but if you cannot use them read on -

we recently had  FTTP installed and as the router is now at the opposite end of the house i couldn't use my Ethernet cable to get online so bought a dongle similar to this and it works fine there are cheaper versions but this is a very good brand -

Buy TP-Link Archer T3U AC1300 Mini USB Wi-Fi Adapter | USB Wi-Fi dongles | Argos
