Hub2/3

Morning

I need to change the subnet on my present hub2, mainly because I need to use my existing router to use my present configuration. Because the Grandstream became so unreliable and the Eeros bought the dust with blown power bricks, (yes I know, surge suppressors but I ran out of plugs protecting my New Samsung TV S95F 77 screen - expensive so need protection!!), I have had to switch back in the Hub2 to enable the phone to work consistently.

It won't work behind my existing router so needs to be primary router.

I have tried making it a dumb router with wifi off and dchp provided by my secondary Linksys MR5500 router but the talktalk voip requires the dchp in the Hub2 to be working and strangely even the wifi??!!

No amount of dmz or port forwarding would work. So I need to change the subnet, which the HUB2 simply will not accept and I únderstand this is a known firmware bug.

Has this been sorted? Will the Hub3 allow subnet changes??

It is all sort of messed up my computer network.

Anyone else got any ideas on the subject? The secondary router MUST control the computers.

As it is right now, Hub2 is primary with dchp set, wifi set to a bogus identifier with new password, the Linksys router set to Bridge mode. It works of sorts but the computers have lost a lot of their security due to the dchp lease being set my the talktalk Hub2.

Interested for feedback.

Hi keith

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.

Fitted the new Hub3 a couple of days ago and removed my own routers. To do what I would have to do would mean getting a static IP from TalkTalk or from a provider. Plus a lot of messing around with my own router settings, which when it came down to it, I simply could not be bothered 😋

The main thing was that the phone had to work reliably 100%, so Hub3 had to be main router. Which just basically made everything very very messy to work properly and rather over complicated.

What I have done is get a new computer case, psu and motherboard bundle and set this up protecting and routing through ports for my own trading computers using vpn's on each computer with the new computer issuing dchp and other security per computer. Does the same thing as the routers etc would have done but without the need and hassle of static IP's etc.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Hub3 works fine, after I remembered to turn off my existing router, set to bridge mode, plonker. Anyway, only Hub3 in circuit now.

It should all work, please can you PM me (to preserve your privacy) screenshots of the configuration of both routers, so that I can check them?

I have to go for a while but when I come back I will reset both routers and try it all again. It got frustrating yesterday, started looking for the rubber mallet 😂

Hi Keith

Tried all that yesterday and set 192.168.2.1 as assigned address and it came back invalid address.

You can easily change the subnet that the Hub 1 , 2 or 3 are using.

This is a three stage process & it is best done in this order:-

  1. Remove any DHCP Reserved IP addresses

  2. Change the DNS address handed out by DHCP

  3. Change the router’s IP address & DHCP IPv4 Pool Start & End ranges to match.

These steps are covered in full below.

First remove any DHCP Reserved IP Addresses (if you have any) by going to:-

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi SettingsManage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi hub > LAN IPv4

Go down to the Reserved IP addresses list

Click on the X in the Options column for any device that has a reserved IP address.

Next, change the DNS address handed out by DHCP

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub > DNS

Change the DNS address to the new IP address of the router & click Apply.

Now go back to the LAN IPv4 tab & change the router’s IP address to the new one & DHCP IPv4 Pool Start & End ranges to match.

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub > LAN IPv4

Then click Apply.

Any problems, please let me know.
