Hi . I'm potentially moving home in the next month . I'm currently on future fibre 500 . My next possible home can only get basic broadband with TalkTalk I think it was 16mbps which isn't enough for me. Obviously if I do move then I'll be getting in contact with TalkTalk but I'm just asking for advice because my contract doesn't run out until June .so will I have to pay a fee ? I did ask about this issue before I renewed over a year ago because I knew I was going to move I just didn't know when . I was told just to get in touch with Home search and everything would be okay .

To be honest that's what I tried to do I asked on here for advice then I spoke to TalkTalk who said I'd just have to contact home move and I wouldn't be charged . They also said if broadband wasn't available it would be cancelled .So that's why I renewed my contract .If they had said that if they could offer any broadband no matter how limited and I'd still be liable to pay for it then I wouldn't have bothered to renew .

I'll just have to pay the termination fee and try to be more careful in the future when it comes to issues like this .An expensive lesson learnt

So if what Talktalk can offer is limited to Fast Broadband and that is no use for your purposes, you will need to look at the other options.

That is why, if you'd known that you were not going to be at a particular address much longer, coming to the end of a contract it would have been better to stay out of contract so, although more expensive per month,  you wouldn't have had to pay for unnecessary wasted months in early termination fees.

It's the same with any fixed utility bills - we can't always time moving house to neatly come out of contract onto a variable rate, and these days you can get hit with £75 per fuel for leaving early.

That's often for far fewer months than you have left on this contract - makes Talktalk's early termination fees look a little less draconian, @Paulefc.

Yes I've tried several . I can't get BT or Sky . I can get TalkTalk 13-20mbs which is no use to me . I can apparently get Virgin Media & 3 home broadband

Have you checked if services from other providers, including FTTP, are available at the new address?

Thanks for replying . You say I've got to get a new contract because obviously I can't carry on the one I have now . Do you mean I've got to take the only option TalkTalk can offer for 16mbps ? Because that's no use at all for me .

Yes I will definitely be phoning them up as soon has I know I'm moving for sure . I just want to know what to expect when I do call

If you move and DON'T take out a new contract you are charged £60.00, @Paulefc.

You will inevitably have to take out a new contract (it won't necessarily be cheaper....!) as the service is not like for like. You are not leaving Talktalk, so there's no early termination fee. No Home Move fee with the new contract.

But speak to them and clarify everything  - at least 2 weeks' notice is needed.

If you decide that the speeds are not good enough and go with another ISP, then termination fees would apply as you'd have turned down the service that TT is offering as available.

Check the Ts&Cs at the foot of the page for details of notice periods etc.
