I'm trying to organise a transfer as part of a house move, when i follow the online process, it says that the service for checking if we can transfer phone numbers is unavailable. Is there another way to do this or will the service be resumed soon. Its important that we know this before arranging the transfer

You may have better luck phoning 03451 720088 and asking for the Home Move team, @houknow.

I have spent over 5 hours on and off on the online chat. we are moving in the same area code. no-one seems to have a clue how to proceed. It has been mentioned that number porting may not be available for "geographic reasons". We have had this number for 50 years originally with BT. Is there any benefit to moving back to BT at the current address and trying again with them?
