Crackling on landline, broadband totally OK

Hi,

When I pick up the phone the dial tone has a loud crackle, which interestingly seems to go when the call is connected.

After a call the crackle has gone from the dial tone, but comes back after a couple of minutes of non use.

I did run the online line check which came back as no fault, but the crackle is still there over the dial tone.

Broadband download speed is not affected at all, still getting the normal download speed of around 45 Mbps, but upload seems a bit slow at 3 Mbps

Hi Debbie,

OK, thank you very much.

I didn't see Openreach down the road yesterday.

Ah OK, I took it like they'd said they'd cleared the problem and were just monitoring it.

Good morning,

The line still isn't exactly clear, although the load crackling has gone.

Upload speed is still 3 Mbps, it starts at 7 then rapidly drops to 3

As far as I can tell, nothing has changed from before yesterday.

Morning Debbie,

Openreach have just turned up and he's somehow going to get new wiring through the conduit, six right angle bends and about 150 yards from us.

There are a few access points along the way though.

I also do not know if he is going to renew everyone's connection, or just lay enough wires for when there are more problems.

Our neighbour but one on the other side of the road gets bad connections when it's rained a lot as well, but there is no conduit on his side of the close.

So 10 out of 22 houses are unlucky.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the additional information.

I agree, this work should have been carried out previously by Openreach.

I will continue to check the fault ticket today for updates from Openreach.

Openreach have been back again today and tried to find the fault.

Evidently my line has various leaks both to earth and to other lines.

There has been a conduit laid at some time, but only a few lines have been routed through it.

He said they should all have been replaced at the time rather than all the bandaids over the past years.

Coming back on Monday hopefully to sort out our close properly with new wires fed down the conduit.

Many of the houses down our close have been having problems, I think Openreach should have sorted this properly ages ago.

It also looks like the conduit doesn't go past my house, (I'm at the end), so maybe only half will be able to get the new wiring.

Hi Steve

I'm sorry that the engineer didn't keep you updated yesterday.

It looks like this fault will be part of a bigger fault. Once Openreach update the ticket again with an update then I will let you know.

Thanks

Thank you for the update.

Shame he didn't let me know personally...

This whole estate has had the wiring just buried underground without any conduits, now that it appears that the wiring is coming to end of life it's going to be a major problem I suppose.

The Openreach engineer said that a house just up the road has a call in for similar problems.

Morning Steve

The fault is still open with Openreach as the engineer has left notes to advise that they need more time to work/resolve this fault.

Thanks

Just had a ring at the door, Openreach has now checked our master socket, and there is a fault.

The line from the master socket to the box in the pavement outside our drive is OK.

He is now checking from that box along our road to find out where the fault lies.

Hi Steve

The fault has been assigned back to the line engineer again this morning so they must still be working to fix this fault.

How's the connection been since last night?

Message 60 of 90

Hi Steve

That's good news 🙂

I've checked and Openreach haven't closed the fault ticket but it's likely if the speed has increased then they have been working on the fault.

As soon as the engineer updates the ticket I will let you know.

Thanks

Debbie
