Crackling on landline, broadband totally OK

Hi,

When I pick up the phone the dial tone has a loud crackle, which interestingly seems to go when the call is connected.

After a call the crackle has gone from the dial tone, but comes back after a couple of minutes of non use.

I did run the online line check which came back as no fault, but the crackle is still there over the dial tone.

Broadband download speed is not affected at all, still getting the normal download speed of around 45 Mbps, but upload seems a bit slow at 3 Mbps

Morning Debbie,

So far so good, so fingers crossed.

TalkTalk speed test doesn't appear to be working, but it's fine on a generic one.

Thanks again for the new router, I would not have thought that would be the problem.

Morning Steve

I'm so glad to hear this 🙂

Just checking in to make sure the speed has remained consistent over the weekend?

Router/hub arrives this afternoon, and after fitting it I now get this

Qwghlm_0-1700838073767.png

It's way better than it was, didn't think routers got worn out.

Fingers crossed that it's all sorted.

Thank you again for your help in getting to a solution.

OK, will do Debbie.

Thanks again for all your help with this.

It's just nice having a clear landline, forgot how it was supposed to be....

Hi Steve

Thanks for trying this.

I've ordered the router, please allow 24-48hrs for this to arrive.

Please let us know how the speed compares with the new router.

Hi Steve

You could try a factory reset first (pin hole reset for ten seconds)

Morning Debbie,

If you think it might be the issue that's fine.

Nothing I can do in the router settings?

I notice there is a "reset" on the back, is it worth trying that?

Morning Steve

Ok I think we should send a new router to see if this helps with the throughput speed.

Are you happy for me to send the router?

Morning Debbie,

Must be years now, I can't remember as it's been a while.

Still the same this morning though.

Hi Steve

It looks like the throughput speed is dropping not the sync speed.

When did we last send you a replacement router?

It starts at 9 or so, then rapidly drops.

Hi Chris,

Speed test run on my PC with cable connected to the router, not WiFi, nobody else using the internet.

Hi Qwghlm,

Current sync speed is 53.2Mbps down and 10.5Mbps up. Was the speed test run over the ethernet connection? Was anyone else in the household accessing the internet when you ran the speedtest?

I have switched it off overnight after a previous suggestion on this thread.

I've have just switched it off for 45 mins then back on.

Speed test shows 49 down, now 2.4 up

Hi Steve

Would it be ok to power down your router for a full 30 minutes and then run another speed test? (This will start a new session)

Thanks

Hi Debbie,

My PC is connected by cable, not WiFI

Hi Steve

I've checked the connection stats and the sync speed is showing 53.1 and upload sync speed is 10.6mb.

If you run a wired speed test does the speed increase?
