Could it be arranged for Openreach to attend as my landline has become noisy and the phone refuses to ring most times when the line is called.
The line is very noisy. I have done the usual of plugging straight into the test port of the NTE5. I have even tried the phone in a neighbours house, works faultlessly there!
Forgot to add, the FTTC Internet seems to be unaffected. Prior to testing using the test port, the VDSL connection had remained for over a month.
I am obviously prepared to pay the fee if the fault lies downstream of Openreach's responsibility i.e. if the fault is on 'my side' of the connection.
Thank you,
Ant (AKA Sidious)

Great. We will reserve one of our engineers to visit your property and investigate the issue.
Our engineer will check your whole TalkTalk set up to make sure everything is performing correctly, but they won't be able to assist with technical issues on your own personal devices.
The booking is made on the basis that you've completed all the checks we've requested, by doing so it will prevent any unnecessary charges.
The cost of this visit is £75, but if the engineer replaces your router due to a fault, or if a further external engineer needs to attend, there will be no charge for the visit.
The engineer may arrive at any time within the specified timeslot, so you must be available for its entire duration to ensure the appointment is not missed.
There must be someone over the age of 18 present for the visit during the scheduled timeslot, as there will be a £75 charge if an adult is not present, the engineer is unable to gain access to your property or if you miss the appointment.
If you need to make changes to your appointment, please respond to the confirmation text sent to your registered mobile number.
Please note that if you amend or cancel your visit after 1 pm on the day before your appointment, you will be charged £75.
Do you understand and agree to these terms and conditions?

There's a parking ground just outside the house, no permits needed or anything. Should be no issue at all.

I am so sorry to hear that.
The engineer will need to park nearby - within around 5 minutes walk from your property.
Are there any special instructions we need to provide the engineer to ensure they can do so?
For example:

I became aware on last Friday (17th October). A rather important phone call was missed as it turns out. Long story!

A line test is currently underway. This checks the equipment used to provide the broadband service to your home - including the exchange, cabinet and line equipment.
This can take up to 5 minutes to complete. I'll let you know if this test finds a fault, otherwise I'll continue with further checks.
Please confirm when you first noticed this issue?
on 22-10-2025 12:27 PM
Thank you so much, home and the exchange, that could effect your service.
The result will allow us to determine if an engineer is required, or whether additional checks need to be completed with you.

The last three digits of the mobile are 790, just for the record the landline ends in 982.
Thanks.
Ant.

You are most welcome, if the fault is found on our end the £75.00 will be waived:)

No, still the same scratchy crackling noise.

Based on the checks we've completed, it appears that the issue may be within your home setup. Here’s a summary of what we’ve done:
To assist further, we can provide additional guidance on checking your home setup.
Alternatively, if you'd prefer, we can arrange for an engineer to visit and ensure your setup is optimized for the best possible service. There is a fee of £75 for the engineer visit, but this will be waived if the engineer identifies a fault with Openreach or a fault with the router where a replacement is required (this does not include set up).

Done!
Still a stretchy crackling sound on two different handsets.
(Using mobile data now of course, as the home Internet is disconnected!)
on 22-10-2025 12:02 PM
Were you able to complete the check?
on 22-10-2025 12:01 PM
Perfect. Please Connect your landline telephone directly to the socket, with nothing else connected.
on 22-10-2025 11:59 AM
The faceplate and sandwich filter are now removed!
on 22-10-2025 11:57 AM
That is okay, thank you:)
I'll now need you to please remove the faceplate from your master socket.
