Yesterday morning my landline rang very briefly for only 2 rings. I picked up my handset and said hello but someone was speaking but at such a low volume I could not hear them apart from something saying press 1 for and press 2 for. I put the handset down and immediately a message appeared that said 'Check phone line'. When I picked it up again it was completely silent and I found I could not dial out or anything. It has been like this for over 24 hours now. I have just checked through the check on TalkTalk and it says there is a problem with the line. My wifi and TV connections are all working OK.

Openreach informed me yesterday that an Engineer would be checking the line and would not need to access my property. However, an Engineer did attend today and requested to check the windowsill box as he said there was a fault on the line which he did not understand so needed to check the complete line including the internal socket. He stripped the box completely and found no fault, checked the line but the fault still existed. He then went to check the line from end to end and anticipated if he could not find the fault he would replace the copper wire completely and I gave permission for him to access my house using a ladder. Two hours later my phone did ring and it was the Engineer who found that the fault was in the exchange and he repaired it. So all is now as it should be. Thanks for enabling this to get done.

HI tramalan

This fault is still with Openreach. Has the Openreach line engineer made contact with you?

HI tramalan

The fault has been assigned to a line engineer this morning so we should hopefully have additional updates later this afternoon.

Thanks

HI tramalan

I can see that this fault is still with the Openreach line engineers, they are investigating externally.

I will continue to monitor for additional updates.

Thanks

Have just received a message from Openreach who say an Engineer will investigate and that will not need a ouse visit.

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you. The line test is still detecting a potential line fault so I've passed this over to Openreach now to complete an external line investigation. We'll re-check this first thing in the morning for an update for you.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi tramalan

I'm really sorry to hear this.

I've completed a line test and this has detected a potential fault.

Please can you connect just the phone at the test socket so we can run another line test in this set up?
