Recording TV

Very disappointed that the new TV Box is streaming only. I am accustomed to recording programmes to watch at my leisure, and "catch up" just doesn't cut it.
I have read that it is possible to record to a USB Flash Drive plugged in to the USB port on the Box.
Q1 - Is this possible, and if so, how? There is no "record" facility that I can find.
Q2 - If it is possible, can you do a scheduled record for a series?
Q3 - If not possible, how do you "daisy chain" an external recorder?
Q4 - How do I ask TalkTalk if I can keep my existing recorder?
Equally annoyed that I can't ask any of this direct.

Hi @hilswift

The industry as a whole is moving towards online streaming content and many companies will phase out recording boxes in favour of streaming boxes over the coming years.

Some customers do source their own freeview recording boxes from online retailers and the prices of these are quite reasonable.

Thanks

Karl.

You can cancel the TV part of the contract and return the box, @hilswift.

Recording boxes are available to purchase elsewhere.

It would have made no difference if you had signed up for FTTC  rather than full fibre. Talktalk simply does not supply boxes that record with any of its levels of broadband now.

Speak to Talktalk support after 9am Monday, as they will need to adjust your contract and send you a returns bag for the TV hub. Ring 03451 720088.

If i had known you cant record on this box i never would have never gone for high fibre. now im stuck in a 12 month contract with something that i can not use. I am so upset about this, i rely on my tv as im disabled and this is the only company i have, im so disapointed.

Hi

You cannot connect an external recorder to the TV Hub.

You can keep the older TV Box, however as these units are reaching end of life, no support can be given if the box breaks down.  TalkTalk stopped providing these legacy TV boxes over 3 years ago, so no replacements can be offered.

Thanks

Karl.

I am aware that the industry is going down the streaming route. That isn't a good thing, especially in 2024, but what is annoying is that there was a perfectly good solution (the Humax PVR) and no mention was made of the new box not being capable.
Please kindly answer the related questions:
Q3 - If not possible, how do you "daisy chain" an external recorder?
Q4 - How do I ask TalkTalk if I can keep my existing recorder?

Hi

No recording option is available with the android TV Hub.  The USB port is for attachment of peripheral devices, keyboard, webcam etc.

The industry as a whole is moving towards a streaming model, with other providers also launching streaming only boxes.

Thanks

Karl.
