In my personal opinion, the only benefit I see is if you have a non smart TV, and one that is HD ready but no HD tuner, is the ability to watch channels in HD quality where broadcast.
As you have a firestick, this should be capable of adding most of the apps as you can on the Hub.
If you decide you no longer wish to use the Hub, you will need to phone and speak to the loyalty team to remove the charge from your account and arrange the return of the hub, as this is seen as a change to your contract.
