TV box that records

Are there any Talk Talk TV boxes that will record whilst watching a different channel? My current YouView box is about to be unsupported for apps so I'll need to upgrade, however it looks as though the new boxes don't have recording features... not unless watching that same channel as you record. (Why would you record a channel that you're already watching?!) I feel that this is such a basic requirement for customers. Not every programme/ channel is available via streaming services and there are many reasons why someone would want the ease of recording and accessing this way. I can't quite believe that Talk Talk would move away from offering such a core and standard service and it'll force people to other companies. Are there any options to explore in order to stay with Talk Talk but get this basic feature?

@Amy449

Recording boxes are far from a "core standard service" save for a couple of providers, who will charge you premium prices accordingly. There are still some third-party recording boxes available to purchase on the retail market if you want a more up to date model, but increasingly fewer. For the time being, carry on using your current box for recordings and look elsewhere for apps as @fr8ys has wisely suggested.

There are no boxes available that record. The 4k one that recorded the same channel as being watched is no longer available.

If your existing box records still it is possible to use this with the new TV hub for apps, but both require a separate aerial connection. This can be achieved with a simple aerial splitter and leads that can be purchased from local supermarkets or markets.

If you wish to explore this you will need to phone and probably recontract and pay the monthly TV fee.

Alternatives you may also wish to explore for access to apps are an Amazon Firestick, or purchase your own recordable box. These are now getting limited but if you search for a Freeview plus box you will find some are available. You would not then pay a monthly fee to TalkTalk.

If you wish to pursue the new hub with TalkTalk then Try phoning 0345 172 0088

The older boxes that record are simply not being issued, @Amy449, as Talktalk believes that the way forward lies in streaming (& the widespread availability of catchup).
