YouView Box not recording any channels and I cant  watch pre recorded programmes. TalkTalk technical support useless. Had to keep looking up tech notes. Just said box broken. Spoke for 1.5 hours and told I need a new box that won’t record. This problem happened overnight. Any help out there?  I’m 76 and not technical.

Don't worry about the "create a new topic" post, @SusieQ3.

It wasn't being addressed to you but to another customer who had interrupted the flow of replies with their own issue.

This is your thread!

@SusieQ3

If you want a box that records the options are very limited these days and most ISPs have moved away from providing these.

You can buy 2nd hand YouView boxes such as the BT pro box from places like cex, or there are Freeview plus boxes such as the Manhattan T4R that can be ourchased from Currys or Argos I believe.

Then you can phone the loyalty team and ask for TV to be removed from your account and request a returns bag.

Hope this helps.

If you still need help though, to start a new thread click the Browse button, then Help With Your Service and select the appropriate category. You will then see a Blue Button "Start A Topic"

I don’t know how to create my own topic. Sorry, I’m 76 and not at all technical. I would get a different box to record programmes but just don’t know what to get or how I can get it set up.

Hi @SusieQ3

TalkTalk no longer issue a recordable box, and have not done so, for the past 4 years or so.  You can try the maintenance reset ad fr8ys mentions, but if this fails, then the box will have failed, and this cannot be repaired or replaced.

There is a Streaming box available as most content is now online via On Demand players. You can request this if this is of interest to you.

Karl.

Unfortunately these boxes are reaching the end of their lives, but sometimes they can be brought back for a while, but eventually they do fail.

The following may help in this process but please post back for more help on replacements if you would like advice on replacement recordable boxes you can purchase.

Hi,

Have you tried a soft reset? To do this hold the power button on the front for around 10 seconds and the box should restart.

If this doesn’t work then have you tried a YouView Maintenance Reset (https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/How-to-find-maintenance-mode/ta-p/1429347)?

Try the Factory Reset keep recording option.

You will then need to reset your personal settings (such as parental controls / Set antenna Out to On in Settings: Picture and Sound / Surround Sound etc.) and also reset your scheduled recordings (might be worth taking a note of future recordings before doing this so you don’t miss any).

If all else fails then try a full factory reset from the settings menu you've just used above. You will lose your recordings but you may be asked to do this before the Support Staff look at other alternatives.

TalkTalk now only supply non-recordable boxes, So it's best to try all alternatives if recording is important to you.

You will need to phone and probably recontract to obtain a new box or please search the internet for recordable Freeview boxes.

Hope it works and please let us know how you get on.
